I don't know how hell canada does it but thier numbers would be seriously low for a newby gardener
take the limit of 5 grams a day, if you want to go above that limit there has to be special circumstances, like I bake it in cookies which needs budder which needs just the buds. as a rookie you can't count on max yield. they allow 2-4 ox per plant, unlike leo who say we get 10-15oz per plant lol.
5 gr /day is 150 gr a mth is 5.4 oz required
now 2oz per plant and you need 3 plants at harvest

to get three plants at harvest you have to start a min of
6 seeds get planted 1 month later
those 6 go from seedling to veg 1 1 month later
those 6 go from veg 1 to flower1 , here they will sex and 3 will stay a month
these 3 go from flower 1 to flower 2 stay a month
flower 2 to harvest to cure for 6 weeks

now by my count thats 24 plants
however it doesn't take into account the curing time which for a perpetual grower adds a further 6 weeks and another 6 plants into the system for a total of 30.
if you trully need 5 gr a day, and you get our recommended seed strains, then this 24 count should do you, as long as you don't experience, mold, mites, rust, mildew, dampoff, root rot, and on and on. they haven't left any room for error, but the yield off our strains is usually better so its offset.
what if you want to use budder in cookies or brownies. it will take more plants and bud than this
calculations are based on using only the finest buds off each plants. you won't want to use stems and leaves anyway if you don't have to.
lets use 8 gr a day because we're using it cookies and it takes 240 gr to make 30 cookies/brownies/etc
240 gr divided by 28 grams per oz is 8.57oz divided by 2oz per plant for a rookie is 5 plants, cause you can't have 4.27895683 plants lol.
so I want 5 plants in perpetual motion
I start 10 seedlings why cause half are male total count 10
one month later I move these 10 into veg total count 20
one month later I move these 10 into 1st mth flower total count 30
one month later I move 5 into last stage flower total count 35
one month later I move 5 to harvest total count 40
6 weeks later the harvest is cured and ready for use total count 45
so unless I'm out to lunch you would require a minimum of 45 plants to produce 8 grams a day of cured product
in this scenario I would say 50 would help deal with losses due to disease etc.
also don't use 4 months for a grow cycle if you have anything less than perfect growing skills, like me ahem, and great equipment. I would use at least 5 months for your first few grows to estimate and another 6 weeks for curing. so you're first ever legal grow could be 6.5 months away.
anyone want to chip in here go for it as I just worked these out without any references aside from experience. there seems to be a need for this in our community so I hope it helps.

I tried to explain what you posted to Health Canada on several occasions and they still DON'T want to hear about it! Best to get a mother plant and then take clones as needed. I am lucky that I have a network of growers that I can call to get me enough clones to fill my needs. Due to the # of plants that I am allowed I have to rely on at least 3 other growers and sometimes 4 depending on what is available at the time.

Take Care and Peace
