This is my grow #10 i made the switch to hydro, i picked Nft, put 2 inch rockwool in 4 inch coconut cubes and set the cubes in the nutrient film.
I vegged for 12 days and these pics are from 6 days into flowering.
i have some backup plants in coconut that i just water from the NFT.
incase i screw up...but so far... success..i will post new pic as i see changes

oh yea uh... 1000 watt HPS 600 watt HPS 4'/5' for the 1000 3'/4' for the 600
so total 4'/8' and there is a 150 watt HPS inbetween
the things made out of 2' by 2' cedar and the floor was easy to raise up i will take new pics at a smalll size
i love 8 inch ducting i have one elicent 8 inch for exhaust two 8 inch hoods and two 8 inch duck boosters (one exhaust boosting and one intake)
so the room is my second room in my two bdrm two bth apartment on the second flood...so i have good security.. but summers comming up i hope the southurn wall is not to hot.. but i have been upstars growing for 3 years, so three summer grows...this will be my fourth,
my garden iss accually a big mess but no matter what i do i stays that way i even vaccume almost every day... so i needed to make a cleaning change... and NFT having no medium to make a mess.is just what i needed. so this is my first NFT

i am just 9 days into flowering each thursday is one week...
The biggest plant in the bucket(purple cream) had six weeks to veg...(while i moved and expiremented with the NFT set up)..
and som that veg for 3 weeks,(jedi) the ones in three gallon buckes. (all buckets are filled with coconut, pearlite)
one four plant row of NFT had 13 days veg(afgahn shiva)
another i got the plant a day later so they had 12 days to veg (j-27)
and i got two other plants in NFT two days after that.. so 10 days(romulan indica)

i use about 1/3 strength of ALL nutrients and i "focus" on a spicific nute or additive each watering change. By this i mean full strength of a one or two nutrients with high conductivity,(full strength raises the ppm dramaticly)and also an additive with low coductive propertys,(full strength raising ppm only a slight amount)my over all condutivity doesnt exceede 1800ppm and my ph i keep around 5.3-5.8. The temp of the rez varies from 72-82 degrees depending on the ambient temp of my room.
i pre-treat all my tap water with H2O2 let it stabilize for about 30-40 mins and then add to my resavoir and add my nutrients. tada fun fun.. only once every 7 to 10 days i need to do this... unlike in buckets where this would be every three to five days. i use a ten gallon resavoir.

i thought you guys were suppost to be giving me helpfull advice and tips...under the "cant say anyhting nice" rule...and green machine was the first to say somthing that wasn't nice...but it was kinda funny.. and no harm no foul.
on that note. here are some new pics... two weeks into flowering a nice picture of the ROOT MAT that develops on the top of the NFT film.
(the plants were started in one inch rapid rooter plugs and then put in-to four inch coconut cubes.);)

im running into some problems....
it seems the NFT is keeping to roots too wet...
and three plants contracted root rot leading to wilt and then death...
treating the plants with hydrogen peroxide. at 3% has stopped the spread of infection. i also put my pump an a timer so it waters for 15 mins. each hour...
i also bought and assortment of chilie pepper plant and i brought in fungas knats....always filter intakes that flow from directly outside to the garden, ordinary window screens have too big of holes... i watched a knat crawl right through my window screen.... fungus knats themselfs are harmless to plants...only seeking out organic smells to lay the eggs in, its the larvae, (little worms) that feed off the sugars the roots need. to fight fungas knats they must be stopped at the source, and killed at all stages of life...3% peroxide may kill dormate eggs and some sticky strips will catch the adults,(make sure the fly paper or knat strips are in direct light from the HID, that will attract the knats to it)also increase air flow and circulation around the tops of the medium, the knats like to relax and bat their wings in a warm non windy enviornment...
I am treating my NFT coconut cubes with a "green light" fruit tree spray, this is and organic insecticide and fungicide derived from pyrethrins(ground up crusanthimum flowers) piperonyl butoxide, and a hydrophobic extract of neem oil... i hope this will work. cause i dont want to use malathion, and knattroll is to hard to find...so any ideas or tips would be appriceated...

to controll my temp, i use a thermastat i got from a buddie for 6 grams...an 8 inch elicent 636 CFM fan...8 inch ducting runs to an 8-8-8inch "Y" that one duct runs through the 1000 watt and then one duct runs through the 600, then they meet at a second "Y" and a duct booster fan boostes the air out the window...to give you and idea of how much air is being forced out of the room, i took off the duct at the end, and if aim it on my face the air makes my eyes water and i cant keep them open,
here are some pics... of the ducting. i have a second duct booster fan as an intake from my window...( on its own the booster fans only move about 250 CFM, but inline they move 500CFM) so my intake blows air to a fan that circulates to multiple other fans and it makes its wasy across the grow room to where the exhast fan is blowing... and there are some pics of the plants at 20 days into flowering...

I have got to say, that really is a sweet set-up. A very nice variety of meds you got going there as well. I grew some of that J-27 a while back and I was highly satisfied...Do you know if J-27 has some AK-47 in it's parentage?

i have to say i think that there may very well be some ak in her... it has some of the look. and the smell a bit aswell... but.the odors gonna complexify,and i'm just starting to flush...

i accually quit using the metanaturals because, not only was it not a complete nutrient, it smelled, was almost too thick for the NFT drippers,but it was too expensive, so now iwent back to my old secondary and micro, holland secret, bada bang, the P bottle. only 10 dollars a bottle you only use about 1-15ml per gallon...
and as always less is more and iusually use 2-5 ml per gallon
holland secret,also contains thiamine(b1)so it also cancelles out the need for me to supplement b1,thereby saving me money.

Ya know, my last two grows I screwed around with a couple of theories that didn't bear any fruit for me. I took some Oregon-90's and Swiss Bliss and keep them in complete darkness for 5 days thinking this might increase trichrome production. No difference except I damn near lost them to mold. Next crop, that White Widow x Northern Lights you tried the other day I started at day 45 of flower of regular 12/12 and set the light timer back 15 mins every day till day 63 at which point they were down to about 7 hours of light per day. No nutes, very little water, 2,100 kelvin instead of my usaul hortilux, I was trying to kill them on purpose to simulate the stress factor and the fall season hoping for crystal-covered buds. They were but they would have been other-wise as well. My instincts tell me I hurt more than helped. I'm back to my regular grow'em good right up to peak then chop them quick and mercifull. I tried the full-moon harvest too. The plants were no different but the moon sure was pretty. Let's say that a 3-day dark period right before harvest produced ton's more tric's, would they all not be clear & immature? I'm not arguing with you at all, just thinking out-loud with you. ;-) Anything short of man-made chemicals that puts more tric's on my meds is o.k. in my book.

Now, that's a smart thing you just said. It's the truth. I've heard under complete, optimum, perfect conditions a strain will only increase thc production by 10% over it's normal, grown healthy average grower's methods.
Not plant size, but ratio of thc per sq. inch. In other words, a 16% thc plant grown under normal, good average growing methods vs. the same plant with hydro, co2, AN ferts, the whole works. The perfectly grown plant would have a 10% increase in thc. That sounds like alot, but, 10% of 16% is 1.6% so the perfect plant has a thc of 17.6...I'm lazy and cheap, I'm tickled-pink with the 16% that I can enjoy up fishing or camping with the extra time & $$$. I'm all for hydro but for me it would drive me to drinking. You're fun to talk to too.

nutrition-thieory

for plants to reach their genetic potential, in a hydroponic or soiless medium, granted everything else is in order, nutritionaly speaking, you need all elements necesarry for plant growth, as well as a few things to ease plant function.
these being;
all the heavy metals N-P-K- magneseum, sulfur, calcium.
complete micro, being, manganese, iron, boron. zinc, molybdenum, cobalt, copper, chlorine

and frankly if there is one or any of these missing from the minimum guaranteed analysis its pobably not in there
at least some pecentage of each is needed or at some point there will be a deficentcy...

sugars.and.carbohydrates:
plants, during growth, build, and use-up sugars, over time these sugars depleat as microbial activity and root development
increase. By supplementing sythesized organic carbohydrates, the plant can now produce its own sugars with more ease, producing more pungent, aromatic,and flavorful buds...

beneficial bacteria..
any form of bacillus anything will work, this is more preventative, keeping the root system protected from bad fungus,
and this can also help prevent overwatering damage in combination with h2o2..
enzymes(hand-in-hand with the bacillus)
help to feed microbes, so they take less of the plants surplus. these are protien strains,and are the bi-product of some microbes

humates...
humic acid and fulvic acid. these are the result of biological activity breaking down for thousands of years I, lately, have been using just fulvic, but a mix of both is best. Humates, not only help provide micro nutrition, but also help all other nutrients become useable to the plant, as a catalyst, by highly charging the nutrients easing root intake.

B-1
thiamine, can be used throught-out the plants life cycle to ease all stages of cell development. from developing new root, to tight bud formation, to transplant and pruning stress. i use B-1 every watering,

PH buffer
silicates are good buffers,these help keep your resavoirs ph stable. my tap water comes out at 8.7 ph so i need this but if you have better tap water its probably not necessary...

flowering stimulant
somthing high in P-K to help the plant stop producing leaves and produce buds..

to make all these work they seem to need eachother. But every company makes atleast one of each of these products.
so its easy to custom pick your own, But you need to always remember to check PPM cause some additives add low salts and some add tons, so monitor which is which,and dont go above 1800..

the plants are now 34 days flowering
10 plants are 10 days into flower...
and i started a chilli pepper garden with some extra space

one thing i forgot to add was that i water each watering with nutrients.
untill the flushing stage where i slowly ramp down the ppm, starting three weeks from harvest, 1600ppm, 1100, 900,500,each 5 gallon watering droops
i go through about 10 gallons a week. so by the final week the ppm goes from 100 to distilled 00, as i said before i pre-treat my water with 35% h2o2,let it stabilize for 30 mins. then i apply nutrients and then to the plants,
about 1 ml per gallon of h2o2 makes a week enough solution that it does infact, become stable and simply adds an extra amount of oxygen to the water.

My grow room is totally falling apart. I have to get in there and re-do the whole thing. I think this time I'll rig the lights collusiem-style. One 400 watt hanging bare, one 400 watt sticking straight up on a rod to almost touch it and set the 6 plants around it in a circle with chicken-wire on one side of each plant so that they are individually scrogged towards the lights but yet still removable from box.

Very nice. In general how long do you veg your clones for? In days from cutting from Mom. Now that I'm doing clones instead of seeds I'm kinda forced into a perpetual harvest type thing with the clones all being different strains/different flowering lengths. I take one out of the bloom box that is done and put one in from the veg box. So my veg time from cutting off Mom to turning 12/12 is bout 55 days average.

Very nice. I gotta ask you something. I run a mini-mom system, no mothers to speak of, I have 6 seperate clone strains, I veg for bout 50 days (includes cutting, rooting time, ect.) I then put them in flower room and then take new cuttings same day for next batch. I run a vertical bare-bulb type set-up which let the lower branches of clones really pull their own weight. So, when I go to take the new cuttings I tend to take smaller, weaker cuts and hope that this will only cost me extra time and love to catch up. I have the extra time and I take pains to insure a good root system. I'm probably pulling a real dumb stunt that is going to cost me in the end. I'm new to this cloning stuff. Ol' bean, dirt farmer here... eh?

Why do you need bubble bags? I take a cutting, trim, put in water with air-stone for a week. Little bumps form on end of stem, plant in moist soil-mix under c.f.l.'s. Done. My question is not so much as how to take clones, but if a smaller, weaker cutting has the same potential to yield as much as a bigger clone with time not being a factor.

ive started to flush using aussie tonic and an organic "final bloom" advanced floraculture...flowering stymulant..mouthful
says its derived from pharmaceutical quality material. and says no more...
the web site give nothing either...
i am also flushing with carbo load...
these dont raise my ppm to more than 200...
so just slightly higher than the tap...
ill flush with these, for one week, then, advanced nutrients final phase for the last week...
when i say, "flush with these" i mean.....just water untill half the water i put in drains into my trays...then i syphon the water out....
it only takes about a half gallon to produce runnof...
anything more goes almost straight through...

i usually grow smaller plants i guess....
ive wanted to do a wall, with a tomato trellis, then hang the light vertically. and do one 4 foot by 6 foot plant...
i seem to need faster harvests than larger ones...
but i would love to grow some largo plants...
biggest ones ive grown vegged for two months. in 12 gallon containers
and they were 6 feet tall and my light couldnt go any taller....
the romulan is a really tall grower... same witrh the majic romulan...
so i will see...

man... i need to get my light mover back.. then i can move the 1000 and the 600.. ive got a slave trolly aswell...so that will increase my light coverage.. cause i wont increase my garden size...have it moving only like a foot or a foot and a half... enough to increase light penetrating to lower leaves...and increase individual plant yield.. i think that light movers fail when they move too far.....but its so cool to see moving parts over a garden...i miss it..

lmao--i have a fan moving my light--ghetto style:) I think i need to build a real light mover one of these dayz:) do you clip the airy nuggets on the sides? My next run will be my first real run in years..im soo excited--i will flower 6-9 1.5 foot tall SH clones under 1k of hps and 1k of mh in a small area linned with pandafilm--this run temps will not go over 73 degree's and it will have the RH it needs for full production(the clones are florishing in veg as we speak and yes they are very stinky) I have aquired a co2 generator to throw in that setup as well for some sticky, dense, as large as can be buds. Next run i want to get atleast .8g per watt---variance is always a bitc*---if i dont hit it right on this run i always got next run--i love mums:)

i need to run cold air from out side...(or suck from in the room if its cooler inside...)although...i did finally get to switch back to the lights being on during the day and off at night....good thing with two weeks left...get to give em the cold snap...
yea, i usually do all the pruning im gonna no later than two weeks into flowering.(aside from large fan leaves that block light).....cause at that point i can tell by how developed the lowest branches are..and theres enought time to let the other buds take over the excess nutrient uptake...
anyway, if they are, way less mature than the tops...i usually snip em..
but i try not to over due it, because ive dramaticly reduced my yield by over pruning...this grow i could have pruned the widows more..but now ill just have to harvest them twice.. and let the under stuff fill in more..on the smaller plants there seems to be much less bud that doesnt get good light..while biger plants yield more there is waisted upward space.and lots more pruning...so i need to deveolp this more...ive got some really tall hybrid strains now... so i may need to veg even less....

i keep my light cool by a pressure system in my flower room(big exhaust-low intake) and also have a fan blowing directly on the light itself.

my buddy gave my a burner--even though it will raise temps, not sure if im going to use it let--i have to redo my flower room completly agien after this run to accomidate for more equiptment and plants. Still not to sure how i am going to do it, but i will:)lol

the bubble cloner i made the other night sucks--it doesent keep the moister in so im going to have to get a little more creative:)

...ive found positive pressure cools my room faster...when i intake cool air from outside...aslong as my lights are being exhausted from the room...
i was always confused by negative pressure....i would rather force tons of fresh, cool, air. into the room than suck out hot air and let it balance on its own...eveyone i know suggests the opposite, but, f88k them...ive run both ways. and honestly it seems to work better like i said unless the temp is hotter outside...in which case i need to go negative...
but with the A/C i can always run the lights seperate from the room...

U grow clones like me--how cool..lol--i put a drop of vit b1 in the bubbler and get roots in 3 days also---i have found out that once hte roots have around .5-1 of roots is perfect to plant into your medium. I let them get longer once, but it took longer to start growing in the medium..

so...i set up the nft...on two sides of four propagation trays filled with coconut...then i set the square contaners ontop the beds...
the first of the roots are through the containers and into the bed...

my main thing was trying to do was reduce bucket hight...cause thats sorta a waist...and the nft is short...and atleast i needed somthing to match

I had pulled about 4 plants from their buckets, shook the dirt off the roots and had them sitting in a 5 gallon bucket of bubbling water,[air-stone, cirrculating pump, ect]. Giving them an extra end of cycle flush, NFT walks in, gives it a weird look and I ask him if he thinks it's too late to go hydro.
We laughed & laughed...Did you really like the T.W.? I give it a smooth cure...

my ph only needs adjustment twice a week..

my ppm for the nft is at 1000
itll raise to maybe 1400 for vegg...
and then it'll raise to 18 or 1900 for the first two weeks of flowering...
then i'll lower the ppm back to 14 or 1500..
i dont know, somthing like that...

okay.. smoking and restarting the NFT system,,, just a 4 plant thing. it'll go into my trays nicly, the small seedling plants, will be transplanted tonight after the light comes on...finally, and the reservoir is only one gallon...
the containers are half gallon with a quarter of the way filled with hydroton and silica rocks... the rest coco, and a small portion in the center is soil...i started the plants that way....
