One Drop Design
Read the contest rules: http://www.treatingyourself.com/vbulletin/announcement.php?f=45 (http://showthread.php/?t=1898)
Thanks to our sponsor at http://1dropdesign.com (http://1dropdesign.com/) we are able to give away a Novus and Contero JR
Contest runs from May 1st –May 31st, 2006
Winner will be announced by June 3rd, 2006
Now I’ve thought long and hard about how to do this and to be honest, for a lot of reasons I almost didn’t do it. But this idea occurred to me and I think that it’s a good compromise on the idea that was sent to me by Storm Crow.
To enter this contest you need to post a letter to Randy Brush (Don’t know who Randy Brush is? Go a search here on TY.) Randy is sick and currently in prison on cultivation charges. A winner will be randomly selected from all contest entries.
Now I really want you to write a letter, it’s got to be at least 100 words long so that it’s not just an entry to win something, but some words to a person who could use to know that others are thinking about him.
I am also giving Strom Crow the option to either:
1) Post these letters in the Randy Brush Guest Book
2) Print up these letters and sent them to Randy individually or together in one envelope (Though if she chooses this option, individually might be best, as if they pre-read his mail before giving it to him, one questionable post in the eyes of the corrections officials won’t stop all of the letters from reaching Randy)
3) Both one and two
4) Nothing
That’s just so everyone knows.
Make them at least 100 words with no limit set as to the maximum amount of words.
Good luck
Storm Crow

SC,
No worries, but I don't want to know.
I was only saying that if you want to get these posted letters to Randy, that it's up to you. I'm not going to require anyone to mail a letter to enter a contest, I have no idea who did and who didn't.
Also, let's not continue this in the contest thread.
And thirdly, I really don't want to see you imploring people to enter then one drop design contest or trying to guilt them into it if they don't. They'll enter if they enter.
You know I have resdervations about this, so please don't make me sorry.
Thanks,
Buddy

Hi Buddyh,
Was just wondering real quick if something is wrong with the link to the rules or it's my friends pc.....my pc crashed over a month ago and then with all the fun health stuff....well let's just say I've swallowed my pride and am letting a buddy of mine nurse me back to some semblance of health. I don't know if it's her pc or what, but when I click on the link, I get a yahoo board telling me that bulletin.php cannot be found. Perhaps there is a way around this?? If so, any help would be greatly appreciated!! Just want to thank you guys again for all the hard work you put into this site....it just feels like family here. :D Thanks in advance for any help you can give me!!
Peace and One Love,
Free:cool:
PS. Even if there isn't a contest in this area, I would like to lend my support to Randy. After reading his story in the last issue of TY, I was shocked, appalled, and actually pretty p.o.'d. I would just like to drop him a letter of support so he knows he is NOT alone and whether it's done here or in private....just let me know, ok?? Thanks much again!!

nope its not just you....the rules link does not work for me either...but there is a thread posted from Marco I think explaining server issues, i think...LOL

No, it's just that half of the times I post the contests the link doesn't work and on the other half it does.
I just need to go in a manually check all the new contest threads and fix the broken ones.
:(
But if you copy and paste the address into your browsers address bar it works just fine.

And I'm putting my money where my mouth is. Here is my next letter to Randy with my name omitted and a comment (nice) about Buddy (I don't want to embarass him). I have read the rules.
Dear Randy,
I went an did something, that is not exactly on the up and up and it concerns you. As I showed you in the last letter, I hassled the whole site about you getting just 4 people writing you. I requested (nagged gently) Buddy to make a contest that the folks who entered had to write to you a letter. Most contests get about 20 to 30 responses. I thought it would provide that little bit of extra incentive to get folks writing to you. Buddy is afraid that because these letters will be written to win a (relatively small value) prize, they will not be “genuine”, just a response to win a prize. So he is posting an appology to every one about this contest. I disagree with him, because I know the folks at our site- they are honest and genuine. However, some of them just need a little nudge to get going. Here’s what Buddy wrote:
I don't expect this to be popular with anyone, but it's something that's been on my mind for a few weeks now and it kind of came to a head today. Then I had someone talk to me about it and it made my confusion clearer. So I spent most of today thinking about this and then thinking and worrying about being laid off and now I'm back to this.
Don't know what I'm talking about? Stick with me. Here comes the unpopular part.
I'm a little ashamed (Strike that, just make it ashamed), that I put up a contest soliciting letters for Randy Brush. It's not that I don't want Randy to get letters, I do. Now I'm not a letter writer myself, I don't even wrote my family of close friends, ever. I was PO'd about us non-letter writers being admonished more then once for not writing letters to Randy and then seeing other getting praised for saying that they wrote. The address was given, so if folks are going to write they will, no need to beat them with a stick. I went to catholic school, guilt isn't a good tool/weapon to use. Anyway, what did I do? I turn around and offer a prize for writing to Randy, which I feel is underhanded. Will any of the letters posted n the contest be genuine, or just written to have an entry in place? How would I feel if I was in his place and all of a sudden got a bunch of letters and then found out I got them because someone offered a prize to write me one? I don't think that I would feel so great. I went and did the same thing, maybe even worse, as the thing that was making me feel uneasy. I feel like I helped do a disservice to Randy and I feel awful for doing it to him and doing it to you. So please, if you enter the contest, only do it if you truely want to write a letter to Randy, but you're like me and aren't a natural letter writer and this presents an easy to get a message to Randy. He really does need our letters and support (but then again so do many other people who are in jail, they just don't have anyone rallying for them), I'm just sorry that I went about doing it this way. Think what you will, but this is how I feel and I'm sorry for my actions. Help me make it right.
Thanks. Humbly, Buddy
The “getting praised” , by the way, were simple "Thank you"s for writing Randy that I posted for the two who said they had written you after reading my rant. Do you feel that this contest was, in any way, a disservice to you? Or are you just happy to get the letters, even if there was an incentive. I’m hoping that you will get back to me on this one soon. I hate leaving Buddy feeling guilty. ( deleted "sweetness" about Buddy) I’ll just let the rest of the group say it for me- there’s already one post that said “Just let it be!” I’ll keep you posted- expect a letter in a day or 2. Take care, (Storm Crow)

I'll make my non-entry entry later on, once the morning fog lifts from my brain.

this isn't an entry, yet. I find it amazing and disgusting the amount of support that this movement gets, compared to the numbers people involved.
By their estimate we have 90,000 heroin addicts, but only 1000 get an mmr? I thought there were more mj smokers than that, guess not because if there were more we would have enough voter power to make a difference and stop the bs imprisonment of sick and dying folks in this country. I'm beginning to see a definite link within the mj community of people who don't want this legalized for any reason because then their sales would plummet and we can't have that can we.
so if there is only 1000 med users who speak up, then there must be only 500 rec users, based on the support I see, so thats not much support for this plant. I guess I was fooled by all the government stats quoting numbers like 60% of canadians have smoked mj, BS, where are they? I know we have maybe 20 in calgary lol. no one else is going to fight our fight, especially if we sit our butts and let others do it, and we'll never win!
so get yourself counted in, tomorrow.
sorry randy that only 4 folks have taken the time to write you and good one storm, for showing support for a friend, thats the way it should be done.

Dear Randy,
I hope that this letter finds you as well as can be and I hope that they're starting to treat you a little better during your confinment.
I'm Buddyh from TY, and while I've publicily ststed on TY that I'm not much of a letter writer, I've had a turn of events in my life that I hope is changing that.
I've recently gotten in touch with my two Sister's that I've lost/broken off contact with many years ago and since we live so far apart from each other, writing is the only way we have to keep in contact and get up to date and work out our issues. It's been very nice and the best thing to happen to me in a long time.
I'm penning this letter to you, first because I can't imagine what it must be to go through what you are and I'm sure that it's at least comforting to know that there's at least some people following your ordeal.
Life is life and as sure as one day follows another you'll get through it, pleasant or not and if you day can be brighten by receiving words of support, then I believe that you should get them.
I completely support your actions that lead to you becoming incarcerated, though I really can't believe that they actually sent you to jail for so long for such a small amout of plants that were grown for your own use. It's also disheartening that you're not getting treating in the best possible way and at least given a suitable medication. I hope that the authorities come to thier senses and at least allow you to take Marinol. While not perfect, Steve Kubby even acknolwedged that it helped to ease his suffereing somewhat while in prison. Since it is an FDA Approved medication, I don't see why they don't allow you to have it. Also there are still patients (OK, maybe only one) that still receive Marijuana through the Federal Government's Medical Marijuana Program, though they deny Marijuana has any Medical Benefit. That's a confusing one.
It sure is a strange World that we live in.
Sorry, I didn't mean to turn this into a letter about things that you probably already know.
I wish you well Randy. I hope that your time goes quickly and that someone in a place of authority realizes that there's something wrong here and sends you home, where you belong, A.S.A.P.
Be Well,
Buddyh

"I have read the rules"
Dear Randy,
My name is Dr.Load and I have just recently read about your care on the web. It deeply saddened me to hear of your plight, another failing of what is laughably called the United States justice system. I can't even begin to imagine what you are going through at this time, I literally felt sick to my stomach when I heard that you were recieving no pain medication whatsoever.
Though I know it is only wishful thinking, maybe the congressional election later in the year will begin to lead America down a new, more progressive path. Maybe voters will begin to realize that in order for a country to function it needs to take care of it's citizens first and not big business, and that there are more important issues in the United States than whether gay people can get married or not. To think that if the government were only to take the money it costs to keep a person in prison for a year (roughly $22,000 http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/pub/pdf/spe01.pdf ) and simply give that money to needy families, both violent crime and theft would drop substantially. Add the number of people incarcerated for drug use and all of a sudden you'd find the US's prison population numbers right back down with other civilized nations.
Ultimately I know deep down in my heart that marijuana and those who love it for all it's positive effects will be the victors in this still young but devistating war on drugs. Hopefuly one day in our not too distant future there will be a memorial made for all those who were imprisoned unlawfuly for only trying to medicate themselves when the two-headed monster of modern medicine had failed them.
I have a great deal of respect for you and your ability to deal with your situation without going on a murderous spree, I hope that you and your family can forgive us all for failing to bring change to a system that punishes those who are ill and simply trying to make life more bearable. If it is any consolation to you, sitting down to write this letter to you has helped to stoke the fires of my motivation and given me one more piece of inspiration to try and continue to make a difference. My very best wishes go to you and your family.
Take care and stay strong,
-Dr.LOAD
