I dont know if this is a problem .....

The plants look healthy.

Im trying to identify something found stuck to some of my stems, both the branch stems and a few leaf stems. What you see is a tiny bump on the stem, which can be rubbed off with a finger nail.

Under a 10x & 20x loupes you see a greyish/with tan highlights shape which resembles a resembles a monoshelled molusk like a limpet which has a shiny coat. It doesnt appear to be a scale insect. Ive seen nothing moving with very close searches of the plant. When scratched off onto my palm, they look hollow. There is a definite reflective coating grey/green/brown looking, surounding and interior which looks like popcorn texture and is white.

I have found about 20 of these after an hour search and I removed them all. They leave a residue where they were attached which can be scratched off with a nail. There appears to be no wound site under the "things". I see no movement. The size is about the same as a grain of table salt or smaller. They can be very small up to salt grain size.

All but one were found on my afghani, a 2 month old tree with 1.3 inch stem growing in DWC, Day 3 of flowering. The other one was on an ak47 growing next to the afghani.

The shiny coat looks resinous. Does afghani type plants ooze sap which could dry and look like this? They are not symetrically shapped like an egg would be. Id like suggestions please.

I'm not sure what it is but take off a leaf that has one on it and but it over a hot light bulb and see if it moves ?

It's a bug. I can't remember. Is it called scale or something?
But yeah, it's a bug. Don't know what to do about it or if it's even bad.
Damn, didn't see that in your last post.
It's a scale bug alright!

i have had scales on my coleus before and once when i braught a coleus cutting into my grow room the spread but they did not appear to prefer cannabis and never spread to my grow room again after i removed the coleus. what you discribe tho does sound very much like the scales i had. they are very slow moving and were easy enough to eventually get off my coleus. i just had to take a cutting kill the mom kill all the scales i could on the cutting and then take another cutting from that and kill that mom. now i finally have a scale free coleus again. how does all this help you? other than following my advice with taking cuttings and making sure they are free of scales i am not sure.

scakes really do not move fast and the adult ones never move. careful scraping them off the plant because i believe the white powder underneith are eggs.

Hello Oregonian!

The consensis is that they sound like scale and Im keeping a good watch. Ill place double sided sticky tape on the stems near one of these things. Any crawlers can get stuck on the tape. Ill use alcohol also on a swap in case they are eggs. Ive found only about 22 so far and at that rate I can pick them off by hand. Once Im sure what they are Ill get some bio control to take care the the "problem"

i would use a neem spray and/or swab. not sure alcohol will do the trick in the long run especially without burning your plants.
