View Full Version : April Contest Winners

Hi Everyone,
Here’s the winners for the April Contests.
This is the hardest part of the job. Much harder then coming up with the contest ideas.
Coming up with the ideas is easy, I just sit here, thinking, picking my nose, scratching various areas of my body, eating snacks and just type what comes into my head, plus Unicorn sends me ideas and I get to think up some things during the month.
But for picking the winners. I generally don’t look at the contest threads during the month.
I wait until the end. I wait until the day I have to post them and it’s always so hard.
Folks do a real fine job at the entries and with Uni’s help I do my best to be fair, honest and impartial. I don’t always stick to my judging criteria, the rules or entires that are in my personal style or liking. There are some entries that go against my grain, but are really good entries and deserve to win.
But in the end, I’m only a human being. You’ll find me next to the mashed potatoes.

And, as always, barring any cataclismatic (SP?) catastrophe (SP?), there's always next month.

So, if you’re on the list, make sure you send me your mailing info by the 14th of this month.
Thanks
J

BC Boxes – Elysium

Ed Rosenthal – This one was a lot tougher to judge then I thought it would be. A lot of good entries from a lot of good songs. But I have to give it to…..DankDude I have a collection of different versions of Comfortably Numb. Love that song

FS Books – My Pick was ‘Reefer Maddness’ and the winner is Jethro Mull

Laplaya Glass – The Idea for this contest, I got from Douglas Adams (Miss ya Doug). It came from a talk that he gave on the ‘Four Ages of Glass’ in his Posthumous (sp?) Book , “The Salmon of Doubt”. It’s a book well worth the read if you can find it.
So, I had a different criteria in mind for judging when I started then what I wound up doing. Anyway, Enjoy your pipe Storm Crow

One Drop Design – I just couldn’t pick this one J So I went with Unicorn’s choice - ayahuasca

Skunk Magazine #1 – Lucy Just under the word count and she was lying on the floor in a public toilet

Skunk Magazine #2 – The number was 14 and Quagmire was the random choice of the two correct guesses

Skunk Magazine #3 – remunification???? Very interesting. I found it used on some webpages, but in searching 922 online English dictionaries, none of them had it in them.
But I did find
‘Munify - Mu"ni*fy To prepare for defense; to fortify.
Or
Munificate - Mu*nif"i*cate (?), v. t. [L. munificatus, p.p. of munificare to present with a thing, fr. munificus..] To enrich.
Or
Munificent - Mu*nif"i*cent (?), a. [L. munificus; munus service, gift + -ficare (in comp.) to make. Cf. Immunity (http://machaut.uchicago.edu/cgi-bin/WEBSTER.sh?word=Immunity), -fy.] Very liberal in giving or bestowing; lavish; as, a munificent benefactor. -- Mu*nif"i*cent*ly, adv. Syn. -- Bounteous; bountiful; liberal; generous.
So, I’m thinking that ‘Remunification’ would be the act of doing one of these things again. Anyway, Raton wins!

Skunk Magazine #4 – This was a tough one. I have direct ties with one of the entries mentioned, but the winner actually picked one of my favorite movies. Enjoy the magazine ‘Q’

Skunk Magazine #5 – Now this works out well. Since the only two people to post in this contest have already won a subscription this month, I’m going to give this subscription to my second choice in Contest #4. Some of the troma movies where filmed in the neighborhood where I grew up and I’m a big fan of many of the Troma Movies, so this one goes to kractor.

Vaporstore – Deluxe hands free vaporizer – OK, now I know that I’m going to get a few PMs on this one, so I figured that I’d just preempt them. Yes the person that I chose to win did not write I have read the rules in this entry. But they do and have written it in other entries. And it’s not like this was a run of the mill entry. I will and do make exceptions like this if I feel that the entry warrants it and I see that the member uses the ‘I have read the rules’ thing in other entries. This was a very emotional entry and I can see and understand the oversite. This entry also personally moved me. I know what it’s like to be in this situation and I also know how hard it is to share info like this with others.
If anyone has a problem with my decision, I don’t want to hear about it. Go tell Marco on me if you want. If you don’t agree that rules can be bend or broken on occasion, go turn yourself into LEO, I’m sure we’ve all broken them at times.
With all that said and out of the way, I hope the vap helps you to extend your meds and gives you a enjoyable smoking experience – Artful Dodger

12. All entries become the property of TREATING YOURSELF.COM and may be used for publication without further renumification

Please note that the word in question is 'renumification'. I couldn't edit my post to change it (no matter how badly I wanted to). I would have let 'remunification' slide because it's meaning can be deduced, but 'renumification'?

It's still there in the rules, BTW. :p :p :p

Thanks to Skunk Magazine for the prize and to Buddyh for his personal efforts to keep the art of Haiku alive. ;)

renumification - From the Buddy Dictionary of words not found anywhere else.
renumification - To put something into the rules that can't be disputed because you can't find what it means.
In this particular case it means that the work is still yours, but it belongs to TY even more :)
But you knew that?
See it was af unny haiku!

I believe this post linked above is the first use of 'renumification' I am guessing Marco wrote the rules in that post (could be wrong I was 'away' then). So maybe Marco can define it for us. I was puzzled by it when I read it so when I compiled the rules in the post linked below I edited it to read,

"12. All entries become the property of TREATING YOURSELF.COM and may be used for publication without reimbursement."

I hope I kept the same Idea with my editing.

If not someone let me know.

Oh....My ...God!!!!! I can't believe it, buddyh!!!! I just KNEW it would be disqualified because I left those 5 words....and you are VERY correct that I missed putting I have read the rules in, because I was extremely emotional when I wrote it, and indeed it WAS very hard for me to let that into the open for anyone & everyone to read, as I am very much a "non-reciever" (ask Dankdude).

With tears in my eyes now, I must say this: THANK YOU to buddyh & Uni....THANK YOU to Vapor Store for thier great generosity in donating such a FINE prize (i'll pass the word amongst my friends about your company & inventory!!!)....THANK YOU Marco for having these contests every month, not to mention all of the Chat contests! *HUGS* to ya' all...

To the other Entrants: As I said, I was fully expecting to have my entry disqualified and I feel bad that I was made an exception to the rule in this instance. My personal appologies to you all and your great stories of generosity & kindnesses....to which buddyh has shown that same generosity & kindness himself. PLEASE don't be too hard on him? :)

I better stop before I get into another of my babbling sessions...:D

My respect & Namaste',
Arty

Congrats everyone!

I wonder if this is what you mean.....it's a popular term with caregiver's in this State: Remuneration

remunerate \rih-MYOO-nuh-rate\, transitive verb:
1. To pay an equivalent to for any service, loss, or expense; to recompense.
2. To compensate for; to make payment for.

Not to suggest that our bosses remunerate us for our high moral standards, but creative bureaucrats at Mesa City Hall have invented a new fund from tax revenue that sets up a $20,000 account for each virtuous City Council member.
-- Art Thomason, "Mesa Puts Quite a Price on Discretion", Arizona Republic, May 18, 2000

The plaintiff could therefore only recover payment for her services if there was evidence of an implied or express contract by the business of which he was a partner (or by the plaintiff personally) to remunerate her for the work which she had done.
-- Kate O'Hanlon, "No damages for wife's gratuitous work", Independent, May 27, 1999

[The firm] wanted to meet long-term investment requirements out of retained profits and also to be able to properly remunerate all the staff and give them a share of the profits.
-- Roger Trapp, "Legal firms 'go offshore' to avoid litigation", Independent, May 2, 1996

Now if Uni would drive down here to deliver my prizes...I'd have a LOT more prizes!

The postal service can't handle the job - they must hate me, they've killed 3 prizes I've won. I bet Unicorn can deliver!

Just let me know what time you will arrive :) Salmon Creek Big Bud stuffed salmon..yum.
Oh yeah, drag Zar and the kids down for a week, beach, horses and the guest house are yours.
