Well I started out with a loaner Vapor Brothers unit. The one made of wood and a fish tank heater. I realy didn't care for it too much. It took forever to to vape even a 1/4 load.
I have ended up using the whip from the vapor bros. unit and a heat gun. Works great but I do wish I had the better heat gun so I don't have to worry about how far I keep the gun from the whip. As soon as I can afford it I'm going to get one with an adjustable temp and air flow setting so I can simple press the tip of the gun upto the whip rather than holding it 3-5 inches from it. I want to be able to fill bags so I don't have to hit right off the whip.

I also have a Vapor Brothers and am quite happy with it. The very thing that you dislike in it, is a plus for me. I like that I can fill it and vape for a long time. I frequently am writing letters or other computer work and being able to set the hose down and type for a few minutes is good for me. If you are not drawing on the hose, it just sits and doesn't make vapor. Bat and I also play board or card games in the evening, and the vaporizers slow delivery works out fine there, too. It took Bat a week or so to adjust to the different style of toking, but by the end of 2 weeks, he loved it. The idea of a bag just seems like too much trouble to me. However, the medical problems that Bat and I have are relatively mild (especially compared to some TY members) and the slow delivery isn't an obstical to relief. Cleaning the Vapor Brothers is also a mild hassle, I must admit. The screen has to be removed and replaced, but I can manage it. Otherwise, I'm very happy with it. My lungs have cleared up amazingly- no more morning cough. It has cut our cannabis use in half and you can make some lovely brownies with the left-over duff (mine even smells kind of like cheap "Easter bunny" chocolate for some reason). I got mine for $138.99 plus another $15 for S&H and it was worth every penny! :D

To clean the Vapor Brothers just poor about a small amount of iso in and shake it through the glass and hose. Just shake it for about 30 seconds. I then dump the iso through a coffee filter and let it evaporate. save the oil for cooking or smoking. Then run water through it and let it dry overnight by hanging it up by one end.

I can't get properly medicated with the vapor bros device regardless of how or how long I use it. I've spent entire 8 hour days constantly toking and repacking while volunteering at a MMJ co-op.
Another concern is that it has a metal, rather than ceramic coated, heating element which leads to metal ions being liberated and deposited in my lungs. That's no good!!
With my heat gun and the whip I can rapidly get medicated with less weed. If it works for you then fantastic but it didn't for me or the last three people that owned it before it was given to me.
Whip (at local head shop): $15
Heat gun with ceramic heating element: $80
Getting medicated in under 10 min: priceless!

Pharma, have you ever seen the milwalkie heat pen? i think it is some what adjustable and has a much smaller exaust port so it would be more likely to fit a wip. milwalkie makes good equipment too. just a thought. :)

Yes I have and I own the model 1400 unit for use with shrink tubing when making electrical connections. Unfortunatly it has a metalic heating element so I don't use it for vaping. I bought a no name, non-adjustable gun with ceramic heating element as an act of desperation when I had a serious respiratory tract infection and couldn't tollerate smoke. The tip fits the whip ok but I have to keep it between 3 and 5 inches from the whip due to the non-adjustable nature of the unit.
Thanks for the tip though!;)

I would think a dimmer switch would solve your adjustability problem PharmaPharmer

It wouldn't solve his problem with the fire dept. !
A heat gun draws far too many watts.

I clean my whip by running 110 proof vodka through it.
Let it air dry for a while.
It's quite differrent when you inhale vodka.

I've inhaled everclear before. That was an experience. We added some tincture to a big load of bud in a whip and hit it with the heat gun a little too early. I was the second toke on it so I didn't get tit as bad as my pal. We were both instantly intoxicated for about 30-45 min and my buddy who never drinks just about threw up after standing up quick and damn near passing out. I just got realy tipsy. We both recovered pretty fast as neither of us got much alcohol but it hit our blood streams instantly. Much faster than a shot for certian.

I must admit, it has made cleaning much more pleasurable.
I discovered the key is to leave a couple of droplets in the tube, but not enough to restrict the flow.
The only downside is that the moisture in the tube traps more residue, so I have to clean up more often,
but I think I can live with it.

Something is wrong with that VB unit Pharma...I can't imagine pulling on the thing all day long and not getting results. It didn't work for others, either? A loaner, you say? Not that I'd suggest putting a finger on it...but it is getting hot, or just warm?
Only problem I ever had with mine was figuring out how much to pack into the whip. Once the whip was applied to the heat...it did exactly what it was supposed to do...

Must admit, I'm inclined to agree.
I don't see how a VB type unit can't work if it works at all.
I turn mine up full until give it 2 or 3 minutes then slowly draw on it.
As soon as I get vapor I back of the nob to a little over half way.
I have another VB bros type unit where the element is gone.
If anybody knows where I can get a replacement I'll fix it.
By the same token if somebody thinks they can fix it, they can have it.
I have another and a Vapir one.
I don't need 3 vaporizers.

I just put a mark on the wood next to the knob on my VB at the 11 0'clock spot. Now when I turn it on in the morning I just turn it to that mark and it good to go in a couple minutes. I have found that the 11 is perfect for my taste.

My VB element finally gave it up after 2.5 years of hard use, usually being left on for most hours of the days it was turned on at all. The Vapor Brothers people claim to be able to replace the element for $24, including return shipping. I mailed mine off to them a week ago, and I'm waiting anxiously. If all goes according to plan, they will call me for a credit card # when they get it. If all does not go according to plan, the community will hear about it in detail.

I just bought an HerbalAire, so I don't use my Vapor Bros. anymore ... I did read somewhere that the VB heating element can be cheaply replaced by the heating element in a cheap Radio Shack soldering pencil, supposedly they are the same ...
