View Full Version : I Need a Plan

Does anyone have a link for plans on a simple cab? A friend is coming by to help me build my first and he doesn't know anything either. I'm going to set it up in my garage. I have 2 half-sheets of plywood, some pieces and some black heavy-duty plastic. I also have a regular fan, curly florescent bulbs (for now), 2 vanity light fixtures, duct tape and some sprouting seeds. Do I need anything else right now?

So...how about a plan??? anyone?

Thanks, :)

How many watts? Cf's are good, just get more.
Get a cheap bathroom exhaust fan.
Get rid of the duct tape and get some real aluminum tape, it really rocks!
Duct tape will still let light through, aluminum tape is metal with great adhesive.
You'll need white paint or some white plastic.
Two half sheets probably won't be enough, get some sturdy cardboard.

Sorry, I don't have a plan either!

Thanks, pflover. Grant's cab looks simple enough. Think I'll copy his plan.

OK Buddyh...I don't understand the black and white thingy. I thought I had some black plastic, but I don't. Will an old tent work to drape over the cab?

I was going to buy the PG&E 100 W flos at RiteAide. They're only $3.99 a 4 pack. I plan on putting in 8 and when I have more money buy better bulbs. Will that work?

yes it will. :)

Is your answer for both questions? :)

it was to the second question about the lights.....

as for the old tent.... i would not count on it. if you can find it panda film (white on one side black on the other) is the sh!t!!! and WELL worth the money. in my personal opinion controlling for light polution is more important than controlling for light reflection. with this in mind, i would go with simple black plastic tarp over something fabric that i could not garentee was light proof. just my 2 cents on that one.

Go to a home improvment store if you have a little extra money and get some 50 to 150 Watt HigH pressure sodium security lights for the cab too. These type come with ballast, reflector and bulb for about $39.00 and up to about $100.00 USD. Or better yet buy them at a garage sale or such cheaper still.

There's a hydroponic store close by so I think I will buy the black/white plastic for the door...if it's not too expensive.

I need to learn more about the lighting. When I read the posts I go blank because I'm a visual person. I need to see pictures along with the confusing acronyms, watts, lumens, etc. or I don't get it. I'll write this down and take it with me to Home Depot.

You might also check with some lumberyards for the black & white poly -- sometimes it's used to protect skids of lumber or plywood.

Home depot has the wall mount type of HPS security light. These are good because you can almost touch the lamp and not feel any heat. They run cool. Don't, however, ever touch an HPS or MH bulb with your bare hands. It is almost impossible to remove the oils and thus you shorten the life of the bulb with a hot spot that develops where the oils are. Use gloves.

:D :D :D All I can say is, I shouldn't have offered my friend a hit. It was the funniest thing I've seen in awhile. :D :D I took a picture and will take more when it's ready. :D I'm determined to learn this!
I'll share my laughs with you, promise. :D

Thanks, everyone for all the help.

My only suggestion would be to make the lights more flexible by making them able to move up and down as the plants grow. Just my 2 cents.. but what the heck do i know... im on my first grow! LOL

Yanno those 4 and 6 foot tall wooden storage/shelving units that sell for about 25 bucks well build one with just a top and a bottom, wrap in in plastic hang CF's through the top shelf which can then be adjusted easily by using clips or clothes pins to raise and lower the cord of the lights.

Automotive shop/troublelights work really well for this set-up.

The shelving unit as I said goes for about 25 bucks.

Trouble lights can be found for under ten dollars each.

You have plywood and plastic sheeting. altho those aluminiumised emergency blankets would work better.

You can hit your local home reno or automotive store and leave with everything you need for under 100 bucks.

I can't think of any way to do that with the light fixtures I have. I may have to move the plants up and down. :D

Thanks dg... I'm trying to do this project with little or no money. It would be easy if I could just go buy what I need, but that's not an option right now and I need MMJ. Help me be creative...pleease. :)

Everything is a slow process for me nowadays. Money makes everything go faster, but not necessarily better. :D It's all a learning experience and I needed to slow down. Just not this sloooowwww. :D

I like the idea of shelves. Eventually I can get hps lights with the money I save from not having to buy my meds at the club! $60 an eighth!!! Where's the compassion there!?

Nice to hear from you cajunII. :)

  That's me singing to my plants! :D

I have two plants in some of the containers. Are the big ones ready to transplant and should I seperate them or keep 2 plants to the 5 gallon container? When seeds are started outside can the plants be moved in for an indoor grow? At what age is it too late?

How very nice of you, anonymous! :) It's difficult to build something blue when all I have is pink stuff to work with. :D Maybe we could do a trade? I have some cool stuff I just got out of storage that I plan on selling or giving away.

Can anyone answer this question for me, please? I also need to figure out what to do with my plants while I'm in Mexico. I do have a roommate that can water them, but she doesn't know much about plants. I would be sad to come back to my first grow and find them all dead. :( Maybe I need a babysitter. :D

:o I forgot to attach the pictures. :o

The first picture is Mango (I was told). I also have growing; Spice Tea (that's the name of the MJ and the seeds were in it), LR x Mazor and unknown bag seed. Don't laugh...at least I found some seeds! :D I'm really excited about the Lowryder x Mazor that were given to me by a new friend. ;)

Best of luck with your grow. you might want to ask your roommate to water them for you while you are gone, if your roomie already knows about them. No need to tell someone else in order to have them take care of your babies. The fewer folks that know, the safer you are. I can count the number of folks, that I know personally, who are aware that I grow meds for myself on one hand!
