Hi I don't know if anyone has put up this Volcano temp gauge picture, if it's around then get rid of this post please.
It should give you a better idea of the temp to number.

I was wondering if temp setting 8 (about 420F) was ok to use for vapeing heb in the volcano...
I like the thick bags i just dont wanna put extra carcenogens in my vapor if i dont have to tho...

That is way too high of a temp! I suggest setting it between 360 and 376

I know most people prefer a lower temp, but is there any harm in using a high temp like 420?

Yes there is! The vapor is much harsher and it really isn't vapor anymore if I'm not mistaken.
I know of a member here at TY turned it up to max but that was done gradually. Why not try it at the lower temp and see the difference for yourself

If you are not using this method in my opinion you are not doing justice to your bowl.
I start at 5,5 for bag one then 6 next bag 7 next bag 8 then I remove the plunger and stir the bowl, another bag at 8 and one at 9.
All bags will be white with vapour and no, it is not harsh.
My best to all.
Peace, love and good meds.

The body should be a dark brown.
By the way I only fill the bowl 3/4 full any less and you are making way to much work for yourself.

I have to agree with Marco on this one. If you are using anything over 5.5-6 on the volcano, you're starting to create some toxic vapors. The first bag will be vaping the herb when it is moist so it is actually at a lower temp. As the herb dries it will increase the actual temp of the vapor without changing the setting. I think it's best to set it and forget it.

pepper the study you posted is done on the M1 Volitiser.
I would be very interested to see a similar study done on the volcano.
I know that there are studies on the volcano, but i havent seen any that tell what temp toxins start to be emitted...

I have found a study done on the Volcano Vaporizer,
To my understanding this test was done on the highest possible temperature (9 or 439 degrees), and 95% of the vapor was said to be cannabinoids....

That is a good find. It reports the optimal temperature for vaporizing cannabis is around 185 C (365 F). It also suggests that 200 C (392 F) is the temperature that begins to vaporize unwanted compounds.
The instructions for the volcano recommend a setting of 7 which is around 202 C. The study also measured that the temp drops about 50 C (lowering it to 302 F) as it passes through the herb. If you raise the temp above 7 the herb nearest to the screen is going to get too hot. This is why it would be better to stir the herb between bags instead of raising the temp, in my opinion.
I think your better off vaporizing at any temp than smoking but I'm convinced that 7 or less is a better setting.

The study reports that those are the optimum temps for the M1 Volitiser... and that the M1 Volitiser starts to release unwanted compunds at 392 f....
If you read the whole thing, it says that they test the volcano on setting 9, and 95% of the vapor in the bag was cannabinoids....

No problem, I know what I do is right for me and was just trying to explain why. :)

Sorry I laugh every time I hear this one. Cannabis smoked or vaped is non-toxic, it is non-toxic in food, in tincture too.
Organically grown it's non-toxic medicine.

so why is the first draw from a bag the best tasting? Even if you stir you never get that first taste hit again?

I start at 6(374F) and usually make my way towards 7.5(410F) but sometimes I forget to turn in back to 6 when I am finished, so all the new bags come out at 7.5.
