I would love to get the mag. I can't find it to buy! I know I can get a script if needed. I like to go and inquire as to why local stores won't carry it as they carry others. So I will let ya know when I get one.

Everyone that has seen a copy of Issue 7 here in Nova Scotia is very impressed.
We deliver some directly to the stores here and they increased the amount they want, so we must be getting better.
TY is growing up in more ways than one...Keep up the great work. ;)

Had a rough day at work (two co-workers were sick) so I was just too tired to read it. Looks VERY good, I much prefer it to the previous issue, to be honest. I'm looking forward to reading it tonight.

What can I say Marco? Every issue gets better and better. I received two issues, one on Monday, then one today. The second one came from Disticor. The first one came from "?". So, one issue is going to be put in a welcome waiting room somewhere.
As for this issue, the only thing I would change is Raton's photo. :D
You are definitely on the right track with the magazine Marco. The info in the mag is informative, in depth and honest. I'm sure many nay-sayers picking this up for the first time will think while reading, "Hmmmm, I didn't know that." It's a great informational tool and it will continue to get the respect it deserves as more and more people read it.

Just got mine yesterday, and unlike many other magazines I'm still reading it! Wow this one is so full I've only quickly skimmed through and read about half. I think that TY magazine is still improving and getting better and better as it evolves with each issue.
Congrats on all the hard work paying off with a great final product!
Peace,

Marco I have tried valliently and failed to acquire a copy of the touted Issue #7. I have called all Chapters, smith books, coles and Indigo stores from Cobourg to Pickering and cannot find one store with even one copy.
The story from the Chapters are the same...they had a few issues on order and the distributor cancelled the order. Two stores said the order has been re-initiated but one store said when that happens they never get the magazine at all. At this point I am deeply saddened. Kindred had no copies, THC had no copies, TCC had no copies.....I have yet to see one after much searching and hunting for one.
I even asked in three different magazine stores (two local and one in Oshawa) if they could get it for me only to be told that the distributor chooses what mags they carry - that they get no say and cannot place any orders. What kind of business is this magazine business???
Even if I subscribe this will not solve me getting a copy of this issue. I really really want some though.
If anyone can tell me a store where I can get a copy please let me know.
PS---- Peace Pipe in Oshawa is NOT INTERESTED in carrying your magazine after two requests with purchase in their store....why do you suppose this is???? Do they not support their own movement??? I won't shop there again for this reason among others. So sorry to have let any business leave Dom's store...but I was in town and wanted to support them. I can't believe any head shop being opposed to carrying a more informative magazine than the usual stoner rags out there. It would bring them a more educated customer. *shrug* what do I know?

I'm reading my way through now. I love the article with the details about cannabis and cancer, and the one that gives you all the facts about hemp. I feel like I'm reading Scientific American!
The articles that that talk about events are great for someone like me who has never attended, makes me feel more comfortable to check it out for myself. I wish I was in a position to use all of the information on growing!! This is definately the kind of magazine you save as reference.

However, I never dreamt it would be so hard to obtain in stores. What's up with that?
I am especially interested in the article about cancer.

mine came in the mail yesterday.
i gotta say that i'm very impressed with this issue as well as all the others.
every issue seems to be an improvement over the last and i'm very happy with the direction that it's taken.
it seemed that the bookshelves were overflowing with mj magazines that seemed to only portray the juvenile marijuana image that all users are spaced out hippies. not to say that theres anything neccesarily wrong with that but it's a stereotype thats not representative of who marijuana users and specifically medical users are.
a great issue and i'm looking forward to many more!
well done folks!!!

I received my copy of issue 7 on Friday. In fact i got a second one the next day. I liked most of what I read but was suprised to see little in the way of growing information. I think The issue could have used more space devoted to growing and propagation. The layout is so-so, but being a journal I wouldn't expect to see anything that could be confused for a page out of WIRED. There isn't much visual seperation from one acricle to another.
More tips and tricks would be cool as well as expanded product review sections. A "tech spec" section would be a great addition to the review format.
From a newstand marketing perspective the cover needs a little work. Less is more when it comes to cover design.
The Shree Krider... In My Opinion section the entire body of the text is underlined. This makes for difficult reading.
I'd also avoid making pull quotes look like photo captions as seen on pages 30-31. Captioning photos is realy important and many photos that would be appropriate to caption were not.
On another note it seemed realy weird to see an advertiser write an article.
PF's article was bad ass! Loved it but it could have used a well captioned diagram or infomatic to give it a little eyecandy.
Cheif Uni's section is killer! Could use a little more visual seperation between recipee's though.
The poetry section is realy cool but this seem like it would be the place for more artsy page design.
The photo quality is excellent. Nice close ups and macro's !
Overall I'd say it's a good magazine that will only get better!
Remember you said be critical!

Thanks for your constructive critism I will be sure to let my design person know. Some of the issues mentioned have already been addressed already and I will make sure to address the other issues as well.
You will see more articles by advertisers especially if they are seed breeders or licenced medical marijuana growers
Over all I believe that we have done 1 bang up job with our publication especially all the improvements in just a short period of time and considering that this is my first kick at the can at publishing and editing a magazine. We will continue to make improvements to our publication with each and every issue.

YAY!!! *waterlady dances around her living room like a 5 year old*
Today was a good day all around.....I got pain injections - so felt better, stopped in at Kindred for lunch only to have the sun shining down on me while on the patio to the tune of 21 degrees and to FINALLY see a copy of Issue # 7 one of the girls had there.
As if that weren't enough....I decide to stop in at Chapters (they had said they had a shipment of 11 mags to come tomorrow...but that really means today and they won't get it out till tomorrow) They had just merchandised three copies onto the shelf and the lady said there were three more received somewhere...but they likely had already sent them back as that was not a popular magazine. I said ......"odd...I'll take these three" *huge grin* - then she said , "I will leave a note for them to take them out of the return bin and re-shelf them". I know there might be a few people that would still like to get their hands on an Issue or two so I shouldn't hog.
This is not the interesting part.......she had shelved it in the Women's Health and Wellness Journals!!!! The last time they had the mag it was shelved with all the stoner rags. As I feel this is not a stoner rag I was glad to see it shelved somewhere that it might recieve more attention. I decided to ask her if there was a reason it had been re-shelved (as it is classed as a Men's Sophisticate in the ordering category on Chapters screen). She said she was about to place it with the stoner rags till she read the green banner at the top of the magazine that reads "Alternative Wellness Journal"!!
I just wanted you to know that someone has noticed that and it had an impact on her perception of the magazine.
I agree that PF lover's article kicks ass! I'm not a bad medical artist.....if she needs help...I may even be able to research photos for her. (though her research is very extensive) I have to admit, with my medical background, I love to be able to read article's of such high quality that are credible to present to Doctor's and medical professionals.
Great job Marco! I can see all the hard efforts and changes since the thin first "newsletter". Truly a magazine worth attention now and I know those few flaws will get ironed out with time.
Let us know if you need help from the sidelines! Always willing to do more. :)

And what do I need to know in order to have my local shoppes start carrying this?
Perhaps a quick "marketing the TY mag locally' FAQ would be useful.

I received Issue #7 twice ... first, when I requested a free copy, a month or two ago, and again just yesterday (I 'think' I subscribed after seeing what a great magazine it is, but can't remember, duhhh) ... I appreciate it, and will give my extra copy to a medical MJ activist friend of mine ... it won't be wasted, and I saw where you paid some REAL serious postage on it, pretty pricey  ... I thought it was great ! ... I had really anticipated an amateurish 10-page comic-book sort of publication , and WOW! here I receive a very slick, professional top-tier magazine ... I am VERY impressed ... now, if something interesting to write about would happen around here, I could contribute, (I must live in the world's most boring place) ... :D

great mag marco, i went to pick up my usual mags at books a million and was gunna ask the manager to carry your mag but i found it as i was looking in the mags, i did talk to him to tell him im pleased to see this magazine carried in his store and he said he will carry it as long as it sells so i bought a couple to give to friends, it was great reading, ive long wanted to get a copy but never wanted to ask for a hand out and like paying cash for my mags in person so im very happy they carry it now...the only thing i think maybe could help is less bush/government bashing as it might turn off a small percentage of readers from hearing your compassionate message...i realy enjoyed ally's article w/ detailed data and having references, it was great, made me feel like i was reading an article in a medical journal...i also very much enjoyed al graham's portrait of a crohn's sufferer, i think it lends more credence to the issue when readers see he still takes advice from his doctors...all in all i loved the mag and will continue to buy it...i think its great that you try to reach people w/ legitimacy and break the stereotype images that people cling to and perpetuate...peace

Sorry Tuck but I have tried to explain to you that I can't afford to ship boxes of magazines out for FREE. If you have a potential advertiser send that info to the TY SALES TEAM ( Dirk or Scott ) sales@treatingyourself.com they would be more than happy to send out the PROMO DVD and sales kit to the potential advertisers / sponsors.
I know for a fact that the TY SALES TEAM has at least 100 promotional DVD's and they will be getting the new 1 that I just got finished editing in the near future.
This info is for ALL TY members. Sales is NOT something that I personally take care of.
Some of our contributing writers want extra copies of the magazine and they are always sending funds to at least cover the cost of printing and shipping.
Since our publication is now 164 pages it costs a small fortune to print never mind sending out.
I will be sending out introductory letters and a copy of issue # 8 to 3,100 stores across North America. Some may already carry our publication but I know that the majority of them don't so it's a good way for me to get the magazine into 3,100 store managers hands. If enough store managers contact their head office then I would have accomplished my goal. I believe that TARGET MARKETING is most effective.
I have to do this as I don't have the $70,000USD to pay a distributor. To get your publication distributed to a larger # of stores you need to buy into a program or hope that the store manager sees your title and orders it. I hope to have 30 - 40,000 magazines in distribution by the end of 2007.

I read and enjoyed issue #7. I have #6 that i have read also, and I can forward them to anyone that needs them. Keep up the great work Marco. TY and it's members have given me new hope and direction. I for one appreciate the great effort put forth on this magazine and this site. I look forward to future issues and check the site at least 10 times a day. :D
