Life is full of challenges, and when there is no more point or challenges left it is time to move on.

For those that don't know me...I kicked HEP-C into remission doing 48 weeks pegysis. I am also have HIV, and won't be returning to the workforce just yet. I need 20-30 pounds more weight on these bones to even begin to think that way. I am licenced to grow in canada and it is time to kick it up a notch by improving my methods.

Well getting back to the new growroom. I moved here some time ago and did't even think of utilizing the basement, which has never been subdivided since it was built in the 1930's. Well thats about to change with a 6 x 12 room. I have all 6 cooltube 1000 watt hortilux from the previous location, but am planning to use 4 in this space, for hydro costs etc... Maybe having 2 spare is a good idea if that luxury is available. I plan on pushing air from the adjacent empty unused portion of the basement for cooling during winter using a 550 cfm through wall fan. The cooltubes might draw or push from that unused space. During the summer, cooling can come from the ducts, since this place has central air. Smelly air will be sent up the unused chimney.

Under the stairs will be located a starter room. This part is yet to be determined.

Enjoy as this thread progresses.......

I'm personally not a fan so much of growing in basements but over all that looks like it will be a great set up once you get all the kinks worked out. :D

WHy don't you like basements pflover? Mold?

That's what I was thinking too.. Damp and mold. In an older building I'd think it'd be more of a problem. But with good air circulation and cleanliness it should be great.. Nice to have oooodles of room tho eh KB..

Now the main room is still 6 x 12 feet. A 750 cfm Hurricane inline fan will push the FOUL air through the cooltubes, then into the veg room and through the other 2 tubes. The Veg room is 4 x 8 feet with the Ballast room being 4 x 4 feet. The foul air will pushed through the chimnely. I might consider a carbon scrubber but that will be determined later.

Cold air can come from the air conditioner duct during summer or the 550 cfm through wall fan shown in the finish room. I also have a 400cfm squirrel cage fan to pull air into the veg room if needed. This whole room leaves access to the rest of the appliances and is self contained. All wiring will focus in the ballast room.

out of curiosity, are you doing anything to control heat specifically in the ballast room and if so how?

At this point, the room is still in design. I can put cooling in the ballast room if it is needed, no problem with the central air or from the "dungeon".

Basements I would assume would be cooler underground with good venting in the summers and warmer in the winters. We don't have basements here but I wish we did. Your setup looks like it will do you well once everything is all up and going. Too bad we can't have a big space like that for ourselves!

Tomorrow it is supposed to snow and 100% chance of shitty weather in this district. I am hoping to start frameing. I ran into a glitch with this electrical panel. It has 18 slots and 17 are taken. As the Taco Bell dog once said "Uh oh, I think I need a bigger box". So I am having it upgraded to one with 30 slots, to take into account the "dungeon" which one day might be the entertainment room or a big finish room. Ontario Hydro would love me, maybe I should get some solar panels.....All in time, all in time.

Anyway time to start this project. I don't intend to fill the drywall inside the rooms because mylar will be used. Only filling and sanding what service people for the furnace and water tank will see on the outside of the room.

may i suggest, running the light cooling seperate form the room, useing outside air, and back again outside, this way the ac air wont all get sucked out, and if your going with a full grow op you may as well get co2 then you wont need to exhaust out stale air but once maybe twice a day, cause its colder in the basement anyway, and then like you said the ac will help the heat...
its been sugested to me by quite a few sources, that a fully sealed off room, with ac, and dehumidification, co2 supplemetation, and a carbon filter, for airborn pollutants...makes for the perfect growing environment...
i personally like to exhaust my room often, and my lights always, so cool the lights seperate from the room a good idea???

and at night the cold air from outside makes my lights cold to the touch, the glass anyway, and i can hold my palm directly under the light for aslong as i want, its just bright...
i use 8 inch duct hoods, tho, and only 1, 1000, and a 430, so im not producing the heat your garden will, but i wish i was...!!!

Not trying to tell you your busines KB but if it were me I would at least passively cool the ballast room as ballast rooms I have been in in the past tended to store up heat and the run more efficiently if cooler. I really like your basic concept over all tho. :D

I am changing the design because the cold air return runs through the area where the clone shelf is going to go now. I also noticed that there is a faucet in the plumbing near where the door into the finish room. I am holding on this project tilll the electrical box is installed soon. Now the ballasts can go into the "dungeon" with a fan running on them.

I have a question though. I would have to replace the wire from the ballast to the lights in the veg light. What is the longest wire you can run from ballast to the light? It is looking like about 20 feet max now.

i think they make 25 foot leads, but you can custom one the size you need, the shortest distance is always best, but as long as you use the correct wire size there will be no problems.

I am continuing construction while waiting for the electrician. I am going to install the normal line to feed plugs and overhead lighting prior to his arrival. That particular circuit is the most challenging anyway, as it feeds a freezer on the outside of the room, 2 lights and several plugs for oscilating fans. Note on my new drawing shows black circles with hatching in them, these indicate 45 gallon drums which will have plumbing on the bottom to make watering easier. I will be installing faucets above the barrels on both sides of the partician.

When this box is done it will appear as just a room to the unsuspecting service people that might come and visit to service the furnace and water tank. And with the fumes being dispersed out the chimnely 20 feet above ground, the skunky air will just disappear. Now only about hydro and the smart meters coming to this province........

i have been following your evolution. you have a nice 4000w flower room. this is on a separate timer and light board? you can put 6 plug - ins on a light board and run a 40 amp breaker. then have your 2 light veg room on a separate timer wired direct or set up another 4 plug to a 30 amp breaker or do the same for the veg room as you did for the flower room like i did. this way if you want to do future expansion its all there. you could do 10 lights total flower this way. why 2 light boards and timers? you will be running 2 different light cycles; 12/12 for flower and 24/7 or 18/6 for veg.

you can also place your ballasts outside the room and enclose them with ducting and vent leading to outside leaving a small space for your original idea of clones. i bought a portable A/C combo dehumidifier to aid in cooling and curing the bud. otherwise near perfect - theres always something we forget - good luck my friend

I am toying with a couple ideas.

The first is for saving back breaking and annoying work like watering. I am going to make a fixed watering system for the finish room at least. I plan on using pvc plumbing with valves to control individual flow to each plant. This will use gravity feed off the 45 gallon drum with plumbing attached to the bottom of the drum for on off. The individual valves on each plant will control flow so the the system can be adjusted to control flow to each plant, so that the system willl deliver the same amount of water to each plant at a set rate. This is in my head right now and the greasy details are yet to be worked out.

Another idea I am floating is making boards with mylar attached to be placed over the top of the containers (at bottom of plant). This will reflect all light back up to give the bottom branches more light and hopefully improve yeild. The old system I use is inefficeant, because all the little pathetic buds at the bottom of plant could be alot more. This idea is also only in theory, and will be developed real soon.

BTW the construction about to resume since the electrical panel being upgraded this week.

ever thought of a hand wand and a pump in the res. my res is inside the room - covered - thus i fill at end of feed/water and lights warm the liquid for next delivery. they hate icy water. then i just walk along and feed the crop by wand. it does take up space so i downsized to a 14 gallon plastic garbage can with lid for res. cut a little notch in top for pump cord. just my way of doing it and no back breaking.

the idea of partially covering the tops of the pots with mylar is unique. never heard of this before. great idea. only takes a small area for wand watering.

I have 11 additional slots to run all the power for now and the near future. Also the plumbing and partion wall are done. Time to get some wire and electrical supplies and close it up.

Things are looking bright in the near future........

I will be needing this space by the end of month, and the large 1 month after that. All thats left is taping the inside, putting mylar up, a door, and the 12 NY clones to gett growing here. I will post up another set with the 12 clones when I get them ready and after the mylar is up, lights in place......

Here is a picture of the mothers, all about 5 generation NYCD from original package. I am also going aquire 2 more lines for in time. The last picture is of the 14 (12) that will live in the new space. The mothers may become ditch lillies or whatever .... they served their purpose and reproduced and are the end of an old era.

I hope she is as special as they say. She will have the privelege of living in this spaced designed and built for indoor growing.

Lights to be assembled and heat test to see if the room's temp remains 25-28 C. This is a reward for two munths of solid work on this old house.

And at the cost of hydro, there was light.

Still need to get the ballasts outside the room and hook up ventilation. She is ready to start vegging at the end of next week. One month from now the other 4 will be on and things will be back on track.

This project has taken some time and planning as ther is moving to do yet, and other jobs to make this house up to my standards. After the rooms are online, some renovating on the first floor will be ongoing. I always have to have 30 jobs going at once.....just used to working under deadlines I guess....

Here is a good use for old coffee cans. They make good through wall adapters for 6" flexable dryer hose. The last picture shows the top of chimney about 20 feet above ground.

The right to actually put more than tomatoe plants in the veg room. I gave them all a good feeding today and hopefully they will all like the 2000 watts. Clones to follow very soon, but now the clock is ticking to finish the larger room and make some soil for the 5 gallon repot. Now that this grow is smaller and smarter than the last I might actually tend them better.

I ended up putting the veg room ballast outside the room. and here is the clones that were held back for 2 weeks due to licence woes.

I still need to put up mylar on one end of the room, and wire the tubes from the ballasts. I have a 550 cfm through wall fan to bring in cool air, and a 700 cfm hurricane to exit foul air through the 6 tubes and up the chimnely. The ballests are in the dungeun with one 20 amp line / two ballasts.

The watering system will be done with a pump from the blue barrel, using a wand. I still will be making reflective panel to sit on top of the 5 gallon pails. The panels will have 3" dia holes to water through.....(I will show this soon)

It's possible that demons can manipulate growth/health in plants as well as humans. I would consult a leading (doubya doubya doubya dot church of satan dot com) Satanist for legal help on both of these issues. Please know that a counterterrorist group is operating to demand integrity for the safety of all concerned : Transparency International.

Reminds me of the "bat cave" where my girls can live and grow with out having any prying eyes seeing them. Basements work good, dark, cool, and like I said away from prying eyes. peace, wildman
