View Full Version : Perfection

Everyone knows the natural high of being lucky enough to find the animal that fits their idea of perfection. We had decided that for our daughter's 1990 Christmas present we'd give in a get her a much wanted dog. It took us on a journey that had us seeing hundreds of dogs. We initially wanted to find a dog from a shelter however none seemed to fit our criteria so we broadened our horizons to the classified ads, then to just about anywhere. On Dec. 22 it seemed that there was no hope until one of those times when something made me go to a little known pet store.

I normally shied away from pet stores in general other than checking out the breeds - it was the prices being charged that were horrendous (of course nowadays they've quadrupled in price).

I walked into to this store and in the cage at the centre back there were some dogs however I only noticed one - she was jumping up and using her adorable little self to get my attention. The saleslady noticed my reaction to her and before I knew it I had this wonderful ball of fluff in my arms and she was female - one of our preferences. It was love at first site and I couldn't believe that I was actually considering paying $400 (reduced because it was the 22nd) for a pure bred Pomeranian. I had never wanted to spend that on a dog especially when money was tight.

It turned out to be the best decision that I've made to date and the best $400 I've ever spent. From day one she was always a fun loving, warm, incredibly intelligent, happy and loving member of our family. Never once in all her life did she ever snap at anyone - she didn't have a mean bone in her body.

My Dad came to live with us in '92 until '03 and had a constant companion in her - the dog was a great conversation piece and pretty soon everyone in our neighbourhood knew them both. We also have a day school nearby and all the children got to know her. She was always a gentle dog but somehow around young children she was even gentler with them. Teachers have told me that returning students ask after her first. My father & mother-iin-law would order their meals accordng to what they thought the dog's taste might me that day. She lost 2 of her best friends when they both died within the past two years and I think she felt it intuitively and though she was a sweetheart to the last I belive she really missed them both as much as we did.

She loved to go for walks - I'd get to the park and take her leash off letting her sniff around a bit while I contiuned ahead - then I'd call & just like those commercials this furball came bounding towards me - we used to play hide & seek with her and the trees - she loved to go for rides on the baby swings - you could just slip her into the seat - the water fountain was a favorite at the park too. She loved the snow and would always make roly-polys in it (like our version of angels). She loved to drive in the car with her head out the window with the breeze running through her fur. She loved everyone she met and everyone she met loved her too. No one could ask for more than to have had the pleasure of enjoying such a truly beautiful life.

I only hope she's running around now like she used to with my Dad waiting to take care of her again.

I'm truely sorry for your loss Miranda. losing a pet is like losing a child for some of us. Just think of it as time apart and one day you'll see her again.

very touching story, and a beautiful one at that.

i have a jack russel mix i got from the jack russel rescue and i love her very much. she was a katrina rescue. she was old and no one wanted her, but she found me and she is my best friend.

her health aint perfect, she's deaf and walks a lil slower some days, but hey. she'll have the love she gives returned until the day she dies.

i encourage everyone to spay/nueter, and check the rescues for the breed you like, and you may well find you a fine friend.

Thanks everyone for all your kind thoughts. Last week I was watching Deepak Chopra being interviewed and he was queried as to which virtue is the most important for a person to have - as he took his time all the standard ones flew into my mind and I was suprised when he said "the best virtue we can have is to be non judgemental".

On further reflection especially now it speaks to me of the reason we all love our animals so much - they have this elusive virtue. :)

I am so sorry for your loss. Fur children is what they are called around our house. It is so hard to loose a pet. When my Abby died, I went into a deep depression that lasted an entire year. I have lost a child also and the pain feels very much the same. My hope is that you find peace and will be able to think about your little fur ball with fond pleasurer instead of tears. Blessing to you and your complete family.
Love, Dykster

Hi Miranda
My heart goes out to you.It realy hurts to loose a loved friend.Just an observation on my part but when God created this place He also created animals,When Noah built the ark he was instructed to take 2 or more of each animal onto the ark,and The bible says that the lamb will lay down with the lion and a child will play at the opening of the vipers den,So I believe you will be together with your friend when your time comes to get together again. The Lord loves animals to if that is the case as it seems to be.
Love and sympithy
