View Full Version : My new diagnosis

o I got a new diagnosis in the other day, along with new pharmaceuticals.
I now have full blown Bipolar 2 disorder. But unlike many folks who suffer from depression mine is Bipolar 2 with Hypomania. For those of you who don't know what the hypomania is....
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
According to the DSM-IV-TR, a hypomanic episode includes, over the course of at least 4 days, three or four of the following symptoms, depending on whether the predominant mood state is elation or irritability:
* inflated self-esteem or grandiosity;
* decreased need for sleep;
* being more talkative than usual or feeling pressure from within the thought process to keep talking (i.e., cannot stop until the story is done);
* flight of ideas or the subjective experience that thoughts are racing;
* easy distractibility and attention-deficit (superficially similar to attention deficit hyperactivity disorder);
* increase in psychomotor agitation; and
* steep involvement in pleasurable activities that may have a high potential for negative psycho-social or physical consequences.[1]
In the hypomanic state, people may feel like they can't slow their mind down, and that all these speeding thoughts are amazingly perfectly crafted. Some examples would be speaking or writing in rhyme or alliteration without planning it first; quick responses to people talking; or the ability to improvise easily on the spot. In more severe cases, hypomanic people may actually hear constant music in their head, or see images in their mind racing by.[citation needed]
A very strange but possible symptom is actually emotional flattening, also known as blunted affect. A person may seem cold, uncaring, or arrogant. They may show little emotion at all.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now I have also been taking drug tests for the last 6 weeks so I have not been able to self medicate and have been totally dependant on my prescription medications. And as we all know that will only leave you feeling lifeless and dull.
But Lets hope I can move to a state with medical examptions soon and won't have to deal with these costly prescriptions, ie. just 1 month of Invega costs $340 at wal-mart and thats the cheapest I have found around here. But I am looking for a new job now as well, so maybe that will keep my mind focused on new tasks and off of the daily grind.
Anyways enough of my little pitty party I just thought I would share some of what has been going on around here. Stay up everyone.......;)

Now with Your diagnosis complete Llama, this should possibly bring comfort of some sort in knowing You are not crazy and indeed have a medical need for MediMaj. I send faith and hope that a new job will be forthcoming as well.

Good luck with the diagnoses. I'm schizophrenic. Sometimes meds are needed.. I admit a lot of docs are clueless and grasping straws. The schizo was brought on by crystal meth uses (hard drugs) which, I've not touched since 1995.
It was easy for me to be diagnosed because my oldest brother did the same thing except with angel dust (but my family never really discussed my brother and I found this out second nature).
Best wishes. I'm physically disabled too but, have time where I cant touch weed. I just have to find the right weed. Sometimes , it makes me hyper sensitive to my pain but, to me it just makes me more aware of my pain... (good? or bad?). But, at same time eases my muscle spasms, can give me a lil energy (have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome), and eases my Fibromyalgia and Arthritis.

I dont believe most of what doctors tell me. I have been diagnosed differntly by the last 4 psych people I went to. With that much varience, I know they are only practicing.

I am curious, but WTF??????????????????????????????????????????????? ????????
You are a drug addict, not a med patient!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Crystal meth????????? How in the hell can cannbis be a benfit to you when you are used to an artifical high??
Call me judgemental if you want, but you CHOSE your path. Familial history does not play a part in STUPID choices.
Cannabis as medicine is not an 'escapist drug' and you have no business being here.
I am new to the forum but not the cause!
Someone let me know if I am out of line, but a mental disorder related to massive drug use is not enough for me.
I am a caring person, but have no time for addicts.
You are Messed up!,

You say that llamabox is messed up - how does that help him? For your information persons with such disorders do self medicate - they are suffering. You say you are a careing person - what I see is a judgemental person. I know parrents who have children like this. If you have children would you treat your child this way?
You seem hurt by someone who was using meth. I rented a room to such a person and had my house cleaned out by him and his friends - this while I was in major depression. Mental illness is a disease. It needs treatment and not judgment. Punishment is NOT treatment.

:mad: I guessing you mean if someone [me included] that is a past drug addict past as in 60s and 70s or whenever should not use cannibus as meds for their Hep-c or aids or for the side affects of phamasuticals right Well you are obiviously new here cause theres alot of pep here that does use cannibus for meds and are past and presant drug addicts trying to undo to themselves what they [we] have done to ourselves. Cannibus has Many uses my friend so I suggest you do more reading in these forums .oj

Cannabishop (http://www.treatingyourself.com/vbulletin/member.php?u=7923), dude, 100% completely uncalled for.
Honesty can be healing. Hammer never put any time frame into his post, so you ASSume that it was yesterday. Plus, Hammer was sharing with Llamabox, not with you.
You have and had no call to be so harsh with another member here.
Apologies are in order,

I too used to be a hard drug user back in the day, does that mean I have to suffer now with my M.S? I quit the hard stuff 20 years ago and have turned down more narcotics my Doc's want to give me than you can even imagine.
Cannabishop, you have done this site wrong and you should apoligize for your lack of compassion!
We all have a past, it's the future we need to worry about!

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.
Let me apologize for being so quick to judge. It was not the thing to do and I won't make the same mistake twice. Whatever you needed to run away from with meth has nothing to do with your use of medical marijuana today.
My apologies to Hammer and the rest of the forum who were offended.
Peace,
Jimmy
I, too, have been diagnosed as bipolar. I've been on Risperdal for a little over six months -- it seems to elminate the manic episodes. I was just recently put on Effexor for the depression phase, and it's helping a lot.
Meds aren't the only solution, though. I find I need to work at living anything like a normal life, otherwise I drop into a pity-party of blaming the disorder for my lethargy instead of taking responsibility for my own life.

by the post made by Jimmy. He likely did not even know that this also attacks our founder Marco...which only takes a clear read at the first page of our magazine to know. I'm not an addict myself but I have loved one ...... and the lack of compassion for those with less favourable illnesses or ones that we think we can attribute to behaviour seems to be the ones that are open to the harshest of critics.
In any case.....I am heartened by his appology and the fact that he didn't back out of the thread in the face of some equally harsh criticsm. Kudos to you Jimmy for trying to make right here.
I would love to see some others acknowledge this. Every man makes mistakes but a big man can admit them. :)

I accept your apology and commend you for taking so much sh%t and not running away.
Now, if we can just get the rest of the world to work out differances and learn to forgive and forget, we'd all be cool.:)

Thanks all, but it should never be hard to do the right thing.
As I read back over my first post I wonder what I was thinking. It is not my normal personality.
People's pasts do not necessarily dictate their futures.
Once again thanks for the criticisms and the compliments, both are helpful in becoming a Human Being.
