I was just wondering if anyone here has made "Ice Water Extraction Hash" using snow instead of ice. I realize that the hard ice helps to remove the trichomes, in the trim, but would snow work?

I ask this for two reasons; one - I live in a snow belt
two - I'm cheap.

you are strong enough to move it!!

Snow is heavier than ice by volume and so can be very hard to move around once you get water in it. It is waaaay to heavy for the conventional machines so is a no go for those unless you want to burn out your motor and maybe have a problem with your warranty! Likely a great way to do those large 20 Gallon ones though!

It is great to help get your water cold enough without refridgeration too! Usually about one fourth snow will make tap water cold enough to mix with yer ice without taking up fridge space over night.

Also....if you are really really cheap.....you can recover and re-freeze the small foamy ice chips after use. I guess because the bits are so small it is easy to break up again after freezing into a solid chunk. That way if there is any good stuff stuck to it you get another chance at extracting it too! Use a soup ladle to scoop out of your machine to save the ice and keep it clean. (as you can see I am cheap and have done this)

Good luck Roy!!

I remember when bubbleman did a live bubble making demo online for us here, we got to ask him questions as we watched him on video. I asked him if snow would work , he said it doesn't have the same agitation capabilities as using ice does. I guess snow would work, but expect less powdered marijuana in the end. Why not just make a bunch of ice for a couple days before you begin?

The Bubbleator only requires 2 bags of ice if you buy it....that only comes to about 6 dollars and you can usually recover at least one bag of ice after you are done....making the cost of the first run 6 bucks but subsequent runs only 3! :D

Truly worth it and too much trouble making ice ahead unless you have a space for it and lots of little cube trays...my time is worth more than the 6 bucks to buy the bags of pre made!

I wouldn't think snow had the toughness to knock trichs off the green. Hail might work but the hospital bills from collecting it lessens its appeal.Ice has hard/sharp edges to knock the trichs off. The water carries them off for later retrieval.

I guess you're well off enough to buy ice and not care.. My bad eh.

I'm not well off at all....but I also have absolutely no space to make the amount of ice required and it would take days to make enough with the space I have....my time is worth more than days of ice making when it only costs 6 dollars.

You shouldnt assume things about people - I was merely offering an opinion.

If you had a small deep freezer then you could get a bunch of trays at the dollar store or better yet garage sales. If you don't have a deep freezer I would suggest looking into getting 1 as they can be found for a discount at scratch and dent sales.. The deep freezer could then be used to also store your trim as well as your vac sealed meds

I do not have one extra plug to buy another appliance.

I live in an old rented home with knob and tube wiring, 100 amp service and limited outlets. I am not going to kill myself making octopii all over my house with extender plugs as we cannot get household insurance either ......

some times there is a reason people dont make ice......

My reply WASN'T directed at you personally neutrino99. My reply was a suggestion for ALL MEMBERS who make their own Ice Water Medicine. If I had to rely on just the small freezer that comes with most refrigerators I would NEVER have room for food as my trim takes up a good portion of my freezer. I myself have to purchase at least 15 bags of ice when I am ready to make my Ice Water Medicine. When I had the lux of having 2 freezers I still had to purchase my ice as I never had enough ice trays.

If there is snow then there is probably frozen puddles or a pond where you can use a hatchit or hammer and smash up a few bags of ice .That won.t cost you anything and if it is cold just keep it outside.Just a thaught that came to mind.

PS Keep it on the north side in the shade and it will last longer.
