I came across this thread and decided to build on and try it out ... it was easy enough to build and it seems to have cleared up the "vegative" smell exhausting outside ... the big test will be flowering. Anyways, check it out:

Wow, I just made one and it's doing a great job!!!!
THANKS
I couldn't afford a store carbon filter and was just pondering my dilemma "the smell". What to do, what to do. Then this thread popped up. OK who's been reading my mind again?
Big hugs

I would hold out on this one ... maybe for a very small grow but my 15 plants still create a smell ... not nearly as much as without this but still too much for me ... I just think the carbon isn't thick enough ... I am going to keep it for when I make a small vegging box ... waste not, want not ;) ... I am getting a new Can-Fan filter and fan combo tomorrow for a good price and not fuck around.

I know this one is old however I have made onee a bit different then the way that link shows. I think I read it in HT, So I cant take full credit...however I did change it up a bit. It did work with great sucess at eliminating odor's... here it goes.
Home depot:
2 gallon bucket
2 gallon bucket lid
2 finned starting collars matching your ducting Dia. of choice used for ducts
Walmart or another store:
Pillow filling or an old pillow you have wanted to throw out.
an old pillow case
Fish/Pet store or pool store:
Activated charcoal enough to fill your bucket up!!!
-Now what you do is cut out a hole in to the lid so that your finned collar fits tightly and you can grasp the fins onto the inside of the lid---this is where your exhaust will lead to.
-Do the same to the bottom of the bucket-this will be your exhaust.
-Break apart the Pillow filling into three and loosely pack a layer of about 3-5 inches into the bottom of the bucket. you will use the rest soon.
-Grab the old pillow case and fill it with your Activated charcoal. soak it like a tea and rinse out all the dust place inside your bucket ontop of your last layer.
- Place a layer of the filling in any holes. cover up with the last layer of pillow if you need it. again only about 4-5 inches of padding/filling here.
-let dry for about a day.
- place lid on and connect to your ducting.
- Tape up any loose ends and enjoy, the clean scent, and peace of mind.
For about $25 this can be an option for anyone. I found it was enough for a decent grow. Hope some of you can use this in the future if you need it. this was a great option for me, I also had a small bathroom exhaust fan pushing air out. I think I spent about $40. plus ducting and I was happy, no-one knew it was there and people passed by daily!
Peace and Love,
