What is bat guano?

Bat guano is manure or dung of a small mammal known as a bat.
There are many types of species of bats ranging from Tadarida brasiliensis bats to Desmondus rotundus bats. Bats usually eat small beetles, leafhoppers, mosquitos, moths and other flying insects. Bats love dark places such as caves, huge piles of guano is left on the cave floors and can be as deep as 5ft deep maybe more. Then the next process begins by millions of decomposing microbes and beetles. When they get finished, we are left with a nice pile of natural fertilizer ready for use.
This 100% organic manure contains 10% nitrogen (N), 3%phosphorous (P) and 1% potassium (K). Bat guano can be used both indoors and outdoors, it can also be made of a tea or liquid form for hydroponic use. The high nitrogen provides the healthy "green" colour and also maximizes the size of the main colas. Phosphorous encourages the growth of the root system and potassium builds strong stem growth.

Bat Guano Benefits

The great thing about Bat guano is it remains in the soil longer, benefiting the soil by slowly feeding the plant, unlike chemical or hydroponic nutrients which are of a short term benefit only since they leach out of the soil sooner.
Another great thing about Bat guano is that it contains bioremediation microbes, which act to clean up acsess toxins in the soil left over from the chemicals that have been used. Other benefits to the soil includes the controlling of soil-borne diseases and nematodes.

Types of Commercial Bat Guano

Desert Bat Guano (8-4-1)
Dry-Bar Cave Bat Guano (3-10-1)
Jamaican Bat Guano(1-10-0)
Mexican Bat Guano (10-2-0)
Indonesian Bat Guano (0-13-0).
Budswel Bat guano (0-7-0)*mix*
Super Tea Bat guano (5-5-1)*mix*

Adding Bat Guano

There are several ways of adding bat guano to your soil, you can either hand mix it in your remaining soil (ill explain later) or you can make tea out of it. An easy way to make tea out of bat guano is to use a coffee filter, simply place your guano in the middle and tie it up like a teabag.. Get a large container filled with water and simply leave the bag in for a few minutes. When thats has finished you can use the guano-tea to your desire! Depending on how many gallons your medium contains would be approx 100mls each gallon. You can also add other nutrients to your tea if you wish; maxicrop, superthrive and EarthJuice are some options.
Hand mixing your batguano to your desired soil mix is quite simple, depending on how many gallons you wish to mix is about 2/3 cups for every 10 gallons and so fourth.

Colonel "Bat" Guano, the gun-happy leader of the attack forces?

Flouride is a communist plot!

Well enough of the Dr. Strangelove...

Guano....I have moral problems using some organics without knowing their point of origin. I find it disturbing that as I write this some guy, gal or CHILD is crawling into a cave to collect shit and will spend their day down there only to make enough money to buy a sandwich (if lucky).

If you can PLEASE ask the retailer where the product comes from. If it's an ethical source then go for it.

Kinda funny this topic comes up. As for the mixing ratio, generally a tsp to a tsp and 1/2 are good per one gallon. Bat turd generally has a higher "P" factor to it. Should be used all through the growth and flower cycles with an extra emphasis on the flower. It will help produce a more heavier yield, a sweeter taste, and a very smelly plant. Currently, due to my location in BFE, I am in the process of collecting some bat guano from the cliff caves here in SW Colo/SE Utah. Only problem is I gotta saddle one of my horses up to get there, so inbetween all the runnin around like a chicken with my head chopped off, I will be gathering and gathering. To the individuals who have put themselves out there in helping me, if interested, the favor is to be returned. To anybody else interested in some pure Colo/Utah region bat guano, drop me a PM. As long as postage is worked out I am willing to work with the TY community on a one on one basis. Not looking to get rich but help people out and let them find out the power of bat turds for themselves. Truely is black gold. Marco, if you're interested, just nod your head and it'll be taken care of. BTW. there is no curr weeds in this quality of bat guano, no straggler grass or etc. Pure pellety poops!

What an excellent idea, B&B! Once I get my second grow ready, I'll be PMing you for details! I now think organic is the way to go...for me, anyway...It'll take some getting used to, but I'll feel much better about my crops. Same with my summer garden...organic from now on...(goodbye Miracle Gro...:o )
Thanks so much for the offer...I hope it's gonna be feasible for TY members to share this...
Peace,
AKB

AKB, like I said, it is more of a way to return the kindness people have shown me on here. At the same time, gas is costing me an arm and a leg, if I go into town one more time this week I'll be a quadraplegic. Want to make it acquirable and affordable for everyone. Organics is the only way to go. Currently I am in the early stages of running my own compost and soil mixes for both flower and veg cycles which I will be offering TY members if alright with Marco. Still need to talk to him re. it. When you ranch and raise livestock it is easier to keep an eye on your ingrediants, plus the vegetable and fruit additives with be composted from products grown organically and grown here.
