View Full Version : Clone Questions?
Just two quick questions for you this morning Stinky:
1. When taking cutting for clones does it matter at what growth stage your plant is in be it veg or flower?
2. If you can take the cuttings when the plant is in flower can you take the cuttings in the last week of flower?
Thanks in advance for your input!

I am not stinky however from my expierence, the later into flower a plant is the harder it is to succesfully root them.
This is going to depend on strain.
Another option would be to possibly re-veg the plant after harvest. and then the chances improve.

1. Yes it does matter! I normally take cuttings from the plant when it is at least 8 weeks into veg from seed or big enough to take cuttings. This is also true from clones. NEVER take cuttings from a plant that is in FLOWER
2.NO I wouldn't suggest taking any cuttings from PLANTS IN FULL BLOOM

from personal expiereance i have taken clones 2 weeks into flowering, and have had roots at 5 days. i also have taken clones 1 hour after i harvested my plant last summer, but it took about a month for them to take root.
when a plant is in veg. its main focus is growing leafs and stems. when u switch to flower its main focus is roots and flowers..

i personally have found earily stage flowering (2 weeks or less) to be conducive to flowering for some strains. i have read that it is possible to clones at any stage of flowering tho i just don't see the point once flowering is too advanced.... once you reach that point it is far better in my experience to reveg and clone the revegged plant matter. since this will root faster and already be in veg. where as with a clone taking in advanced budding will have to be revegged anyway to be worth the effort. :)

I beleive your best bet for fruitful cloning is to take your cuttings before the flowering begins or is induced.

I just took 2 clones from gals that are just over 2 weeks into flowering..
Keeping me fingers crossed..
I've read somewhere that they can take up to two weeks before any roots will show when taking clones during flowering..

A plant should be fully mature showing alternating internodes before clonig begins. This can range from as little as 5wks to maybe 90 days for some serious equatorial sativas.
You can infact take cuttings from a plant that had flowering light schedules introduced. The primary concern is wheather or not actual flowering has set in. Actual flowering and flower set can take as little as 2 wks to begin, or as long as 4-5wks. As already mentioned the further along the longer it will take. I have heard of fully flowered plants rooting, but taking upto 6 months to do so.

"Actual flowering and flower set can take as little as 2 wks to begin, or as long as 4-5wks. "
in my garden, especially if i use bud blood i can get flower set in as little as 3 days.

I will give up-dates on my "flower clones". I have three gorgeous BIG NL#5's on my table.. it's my intention to take a couple of clones from these either tonight or tomorrow. I also have a "mystery strain" on my tables.. I believe I "may" have a couple of trainwreck X herijuana on my table.. I will certainly want a couple of clones from that as well. My plants are just enetering into their third week of flower.. I'll be cloning using my homemade aerocloner, using AN's "Cloneit".

PS: I'm also going to clone from my momma OA and my momma Skunk#1... time to retire these mommas and replace with the "pick of the litter"

After reading more in this thread, I would like to clarify a couple of things...
1. I cloned late, because I didn't have mother yet.
2. If you have mother that would make difference, because you know they are fem's
3. MY plants were definitely in flower and within 2 weeks (using my method) I have transplanted half of them in my seedling bubblers...(another story)...the other half are going into my side by side/3 different grow medium experiment...(another story)...one of them was a top off a topped girl I accidentally broke...shoulda left it there, oh well,
It has finally rooted. it's over a 1/4 inch thick, I'm thrilled, It's mama is a big one!...
enough rambling...just thought you might be interested...later..peace

:) I meant to say budblood, :o sorry...why do you use 2 different bloom formula's?
For everyone's future reference!
:D Here is pic of clones from plant in flower 2-3 weeks...notice the one back right< I thought was drowned. just look at the damn thing rejuv' the one on the left; look at the size of that stem/stalk...that was a top I broke off, it took a month to root, but I bet she is going to be a monster...roots roots roots :D :) :D :)
