Siberians Nabbed Digging Cannabis Out Of Snow At -50C

YAKUTSK - A criminal case has been launched against two men caught picking cannabis in a snow-covered field in the northeastern Siberian republic of Yakutia, a drug police spokesman said on Wednesday.

"Despite vigorous cold, reaching minus 52 degrees Celsius [minus 62 degrees Fahrenheit] that day, the two buddies managed to harvest two bags of cannabis with a total weight of nearly three kg [6.6 lbs]," the source said.

The two men admitted that they were going to share the drug with friends. Medical tests confirmed that they had used marijuana before.

"On the eve of the forthcoming New Year celebrations, everyone tries to buy presents and food. Apparently, for some people presents are associated not with going to shops, but with gathering pot in a cannabis field," the source added.

The two men have been charged with illegal possession of drugs in especially large quantities and will face up to 10 years in prison if found guilty.

haha had to laugh when I saw this:D I live in Siberia with my fiancee (moved here for work). I am originally from Canada and I thought this way also before moving here. What you are to referring to is a soviet Gulag work camp which were all disassembled after the fall of communism. The jails can be compared to those of southern USA not the greatest, but by no means do they lack of basic human needs. In Russia you virtually can do anythign with out going to jail.....it all depends on how much money you have, The wifes a lawyer!:D
