aloha Stinky, I live in Hawaii and have had my medical MJ license for 4 yrs. I was hoping you would help me in making a decision in choosing 2 new strains to try. I am looking for one that is very happy and uplifting, energetic as I have chronic fatigue as well as a good one to quiet my mind and sleep and help for pain.

( i have a limited budget but I would be willing to pay for quality up to around $80 for 10 seeds. If there are companys that will sell 5 of each it would be ideal)

I've read that white widow is a excellent variety, yet there it is available from several breeders at varying prices. ie dutch passion is $75 and nirvana's is $30? is there a difference in the quality of the strain, or one breeder that is the best for a reasonable price?

Dutch passion's euphoria or power plant sounded just like what i was looking for in an uplifting strain, but then I read a report that their feminized seeds aren't that good and go hermie?
What would your opinon be on this?

What strain would you feel is the best for my requirements?

I have had a problem with mold in the past so a plant that is also mold resistant or airy would be great. Easy to grow, and take care of would also be a key factor in the choice if possible.

The plants will be started indoors and then moved outside, it is hot and dry where I live, however there is some misting from the irrigation in the yard early morning and mid afternoon. With winter is is slightly cooler now as well here high of 80- low around mid 60's.

Please help me make the right choices, as I can't afford to make mistakes.

If there are some safe reliable seed banks to purchase from I would be grateful for that info too. I wanted to order from Dr.Chronic but read he no longer ships to the US

ps. 2 months ago our local Medical MJ club was busted. (patientswithouttime) It is really unfortunate for all those that need access to MMJ. I hope they win their case as many who live here now will not have access to medicine..
best wishes hope to hear from you soon.

Living in hawaii you should try Spice from Mr Nice Seedbank, it's hawaiian sativa X hawaiian indica;

Aloha Hashimoto, thanks for the suggestion, but the reports I found on line weren't that great for this strain?

Aloha luckyliveinhawaii, I just checked greenhouse seeds selections and they have some nice mixed seed packs, both sativa and indica.
For indica there's 2 mix packs of 5 seeds in each pack and the black and white mix looks good, there's 2 white widow and 3 white rhino seeds for 25 euros.
Sativa mix has 5 of their top sativas that should keep you busy, that sells for 27.50 euros
they're all feminized seeds, here's the link:

I was suggested ;)

Caribe (Jamaica x Jamaica/NL5/Haze) from CannaBiogen

It sure looks she would be at home in your neck of the woods.

Take Care!

Hi lucky,
You really are lucky in the sense that you live in Hawaii. You have access to genetics a great deal of us in the community would gladly welcome into our collections. I personally wouldnt be so quick to look elsewhere for genetics, although I certainly understand your desire to see whats out there.

If you're interested in White Widow my friend, the only source you should go to is Mr. Nice Seeds. In fact, if you're looking for anything of Dutch origins I suggest going to Mr. Nice Seeds. Many companies today are using Mr. Nice Seed stock anyway, both Dutch Passion and Nirvana Widow come from seeds (1 pack each respectively) purchased from Shantibaba at the Green House is the mid to late '90s anyway. So you're essentially buying copies of the original from Mr. Nice seeds by looking elsewhere for a Widow line. So its a good idea to just go to the original breeder for the strains you're after.

I personally recommend Mango Haze, its slightly out of your price range but I can guarantee its quality is exceptional. You mentioned you were after a very happy, uplighting high that was energetic and a possible answer to your chronic fatigue...thats Mango Haze mate.

Good luck.

Sounds VERY nice!

Leda Uno (KC) is also said to perform nicely outdoors in Hawaii.

aloha, what sort of high does it have? Is it easy to grow, mold resistant?

I lost a lot in the past with mold, not seeing it sometimes till it was too late to save more than a bit of safe smoke.

Hola!

Some more info about this gal Leda Uno...

They mention something about dry conditions but I've heard she does well in the the tropics.

Excerpts of review and description taken from: http://www.druglibrary.org/strainguide/KC_Brains/Leda_Uno/248/index.html#g248

KC, Brazilian and Thai genetics form the bulk of this sativa/indica (60/40) hybrid. Indoor growers who enjoy working with bigger plants will truly appreciate this sturdy, hyperactive producer of deliciously citric buds that pack a pleasantly mean punch to the head in roughly sixty days flowering. Outdoors, she prefers dry conditions to wet, and will grow to impressive heights -- greater than twelve feet -- making this lovely hybrid a bitch for visual stealth but worth it in terms of a generous yield for those who can pull it off. A nice, mood-enhancing social buzz warms the smoker immediately. With truly vigorous pest resistance and a fearless growth habit, this durable hybrid has a forceful personality that makes cultivation a joy.

I germed 10/10 and got six females, three distinct phenotypes:

1. Extremely fast flowering sativa 40 days max. Columnar, hardly any branching. Yield not the best, grown SOG, 20 plants/m2, 600w, about 250g. Taste is fruity, although not very strong, a pleasant day weed, went down with friends the best of the three, the others were too strong.

2. The Blue Phenotype. This plant looked very much like Flo at the end of flowering. The underside of the fan leaves purpled slightly and the calyx developed hues of blue. Citrus in smell and taste, very strong, probably 60/40 head/body. Creeper effect and long lasting.

3. The Black Phenotype. Definitely my favourite. This was the first seed to germinate and the most vigorous during both growth and flowering. An exceptionally neat grower, not much branching, but thick juicy buds. The plant's leaves turned almost black toward the end of flowering, definitely the most beautiful plant I've ever seen. The smell was sublime, a pine/cedar odour, very subtle. The cured bud was fantastic, sandalwood pepper. It blew the top of my head off. I had a couple of friends over, after one joint between three, both of them were too paranoid to get behind the wheel, it took them about three hours to leave. Very much a head stone, almost no after effect (about five hours later). This was by far and away the best plant I've ever grown and comes very close to the best I've ever smoked.

Aloha mahalo for the link. That site has a lot of info on quite a few strains, although it isn't complete for what I guess are some of the newer strains.

That leda uno looks like it has possiblities, the fact that the grower got 3 different types of pot makes growing it a bit chancy in what you'll actually get in a plant. & it still dosn't seem to have the high I was looking for which is a really happy uplifting one.

If anyone can recommend a not too expensive strain ($40-50 is my absolute limit) that has disease- mold resistant qualities, easy to grow-germinate as well as being a really happy high I would be grateful. (that you've actually grown)

A second strain I'd like to find would have the same characteristics but be suitable for insomnia which has been a real problem for me.

Searching can be a daunting task.

Also; try local cannabis, save the seeds of the one you like and go from there.

Good luck!

The best sativa that I have smoked in many years was a haze grown in Kona. Get Super Silver Haze or look hard for Nevilles Haze from Shanti, a.k.a Mr. Nice Seeds and you will be smiling for a long time. I guarantee it!

Aloha our local club was raided in the fall so there isn't really a chance of finding local seeds,
Buffalo Bill, I will keep the Mr. Nice varieties in mind. Has anyone grown his seeds? Do they all germinate (I hope at those prices)

There are quite a few varieties that were recently released too a handful of companies from Mr. Nice seeds. The stock is fresh and well worth anyones time to grow. Quality is assured, the hard part is deciding which variety to purchase. I recommend getting a few.

www.vu-du.com seems to be a popular choice to acquire the fresh MNS stock, there are other companies as well such as breedbay and THCfarmer I believe.

Here is some more specific information from Shanti himself.

Hi All

before I left to Indonesia I sent loose seed to THC farmer and Breedbay plus all stock is held at vu-du awaiting the new packets. They all have the NH and several others .The new packets arrive jan 15 as we were now notified of completion date so a few days later they will be ready to go.All seeds were tested for germination levels and I asked for them to be packed with 18 seeds to a packet even though it says 15 per packet...so the grower has a few extra in case.Hope this will satisfy all the theories going round but sometimes things take a little longer...thanks for your patience. All the best Sb

I am not sure how they will do outdoors in your area but I have had much success with Blueberry and C99 for the conditions you mention. I suffer from both insomnia and fatigue relating to that and pain issues. I found both those strains very helpful in treating those conditions. If you are absolutely limited to the 40-50 price range I think it is worth trying some of the "knock offs" I started my growing experiences years back with a few packs of Nirvana seeds and I had great experiences. You will likely get some variation in phenotypes but this will allow you to pick the one that works best for you. The premium pricing of the top breeders is partly because you are paying for consistency and purity. You are more likely to get a homogeneous group of plants that represent the given genetic when buying from the top breeders. But if you have a financial limit like most of us then the trade off is buying the others and doing a bit of selection. I can second the quality of KC's Leda Uno and add that their Mango is also fantastic.

You mentioned loosing crops to mold in the past. I thought I would mention that you can process moldy buds with "bubble bags" and the resulting product is much cleaner and usable. The other option is making oil from the moldy buds. This is not to say you should grow moldy buds, its just a solution to mold and helps to not loose all of the medicine you have put so much time and effort into.

Best of luck finding a suitable strain/strains.

I will keep Mr. Nice in mind, and depending on my budget consider getting one strain next time I order. I've heard really good things about k.c leda uno which is much more in my price range.

mahalo for all the great info.

Aloha, forgot to mention, In the past, I've cut the visably moldy parts off the buds and made tincture, but even then I was a bit hesitant as I didn't want to get sick from the mold.

In making oil did you mean in using olive oil and heating it gently for 2 hrs & straining it, or to do some other kind of process. I didn't think cooking it would kill the mold.

Are there certain strains that don't cause sinus congestion?

Most I've tried tend to make you mouth very dry, cause thirst and the sinus's to clog up.
