There are some small flies in my grow box,
how do I get rid of them?
I have a nine gallon resovoir,
there seems to be
getting more...

What color are they ?

Always wise to keep a few no pest strips in reserve for just this reason.

They look dark, maybe black, really small but there are some bigger ones there too,
They are crawling around and flying, and they are quick when I try to kill them.
What kind of no pest strips, where do you get them?

Try a garlic tea spray on the leaves. Dice up a few cloves of garlic and soak in water over night, strain and spray. Your garden will smell like my Grandmas kitchen but it might drive the little buggers away. I grow in soil and always put a clove or two in the dirt.

Interesting, I never heard of that.
I found one of those sticky fly catchers,
It looks like a long tape you hang.
I put that up in my box just above
the plants. I don't really have anywhere
else to put it because it will stick to my
plants or the side of the box.
Hope that will do the job...
If this does not work maybe I will try the garlic.

You can buy no pest strips from any Home hardware store, Home Depot, even Canadian Tire.

I have used the yellow sticky square flying pest strips ..The flys seem to be attracted to yellow and it catches the adults before they lay more eggs. Your local grow store should stock them..Cheers

Fungus gnats do the damage to your plants where you can't see, the roots.
Don't spray your leaves with garlic or anything for fungus gnats, sticky strips catch the adults, no pest strips kill the adults, but your biggest problem is in your root zone where their larvae are eating your roots now.

Where did you think the flies come from? Especially in the middle of winter?

ratherbburnin, you're thinking about Diatomaceous earth, sprinkled on top of your soil it kills the hatching larvae, I believe it eats away at their exoskeletons? I'd have to do a google search to be sure.

PJGreen you can buy products such as gnatrol, but I'd stick with non chemical methods. The diatomaceous earth works, but when i had fungus gnats I got rid of them with Safers Sticky Strips, they're small stakes that hold a yellow coloured 2 way tape type material that catches the flies when they land on it, they're attracted to this tone of yellow and get stuck when they investigate. It takes time because this method relies on killing the adults so they can't lay more eggs in the soil. Takes about a week from the time eggs are layed till they hatch, so in a couple weeks you should be rid of them.

I am growing in water...
Maybe the sticky strips will work.
I have a fly catcher in there now,
you know the long curly things you pull,
but its not attracting anything yet.
Maybe its too high...or its not the right thing.

Hey PJ
I just finished a crop where I battled the fungus gnats the whole way

To kill them you need to end their food supply. SM90 sprayed on the top of a medium will prevent what they are looking for (fungus). As soon as you start adding additives, you start producing fungus. Not the bad kind, the good kind that makes a soil or medium healthy, gnats like it too.

I also got some sticky strips ( which u can get at walmart or any hydro store, Crappy tire probably has them too. Put them everywhere in your room, but try to get some at canopy height and ground height, be careful as these are super sticky and will make a mess of your foliage, in a hurry.

Lots of air movement, will make it tough for these to stay at canopy height.

Now for extreme measures, and I would never spray this stuff on buds, but Walmart also had a specific fungus gnat spray, it is a pesticide, so I would only use it for vegging plants, and I also sprayed my entire room with it, while I was in between crops. My gnat problem is gone now.

I am not sure where my infestation came from, but I think it may have been from a pot I had outside for a few months in fall, there was nothing in it, but probably collected some gnats, I thought I washed it before use, but I probably just rinsed it.

Good luck with these buggers, they dont do much damage, but they are a huge bother

Take the QEW to Southdown Rd., drive south to Lakeshore Blvd/Royal Windsor Drive, same roadway just a name change at Southdown Rd., turn right and it's about 300 yards on the right, just past the rollerskate rink.
A good shop, some items overpriced but for those I go to another shop in Mississauga near Tomken Rd. & Dundas Street.

Not sure about all of those, but I bought a bag of worm castings and a 10Kg tub of bloom bat guano there yesterday. But I think I got the last tub of guano, you'd b best to call ahead and ask, they can get stuff ordered in usually in a few days.
worm castings is a 30lb bag for $38
bloom bat guano cost $90 for the 10Kg tub

lemme know when you're going there, it's not far, just a couple miles down the shore.
