Take them for what they are worth ... here are some pics from my collection worth checking out. And if you don't have a 60x or 100x microscope (got one from radio shack for $10.00) you should get one

thanx for posting the second pic!!! i have been missing that one for a bit now and been wanting it... THANX! :D

as for the first one....... very very very interestind.... i would like to see that backed up somewhere or verified.... not sure I should be the one to do it tho lol.... anyway the reason why is because everything i have ever read on the subject before said there was not way to tell before hand and that claims to be 100%. pritty impressive if true.

anyway thanx again :D

Thanks for the contribution to TY. It's nice to see new members contibute instead of asking for something free. :) This information is very good for us that need to learn everything. :D

The seed thing may or may not be true, but it can definately help you identify viable seeds -- have not submitted it to scientific analysis yet.

The Tricome one is the one I live by. The hairs I think are of secondary value for ripeness indication

what if there are a 50/50 mix of red hair and new fresh clear hairs and some of the red hairs are falling off? but tricromes are still clear

a penny for my thoughts...

supposing i pull out a branch of buds from past endeavers, and put a x-glass up to it to see the buds closeup. can i determine what type of high it will likely bring (already knowing the strain), by comparing it to the chart in pic#2?

hmmm??

meaning the buds on the upper part of the plant are ripe, and lower ones nott, or all part of the same bud? if so, then harvest the top buds that are ripe, and let the bottom buds grow for *a week more* (from what i've read).

IF the meaning is same bud, then it sounds as if the plant was pre-sexed and put back into veg for a short time, or there was some kind of interruption of dark cycle (based upon my own past experiences) after the 12/12 cycle was induced. i would wait and hope the plant produces more thc, but occasionaly they will shutdown the waterworks and die.

What about seeds that go thump thump like a flat tyre yet have a perfect volcano?

LOL DGB i wondered that same thing!!!!! hehehehehe

SPG, i live by that chart too ever since i first got if from groo (i think) when i first joined TY last year. and it has made a rather large difference in how my end product turns out. i have a lot more control now when trying to get a particular effect profile form a given strain. interestingly the order of progression of states of triches is something of much debate here and at many cannabis sites i have been too in the past. based on my own observations i usually have opaque/cloudy, clear, amber (william's wonder for exampler CLEARLY progresses in this fashion). tho i have also had one plant (Besty from colorado) that went distinctly clear, cloudy, amber.

finally to make things even more confussing for a newbie.... i have friends that SWARE their plants' triches go from clear to amber to opaque. i think the majority of what is going on here amounts to different understanding of what is ment by opaque. for example, a triche that has gone past amber and become seriously colored could easily be discribed as opaque.

anyway i'd like to see what others have to say on this topic :)

I don't deal with the hairs at all anymore. Just the trics.

The few grows I've done where I checked seemed to prgress as per chart, though the top and bottom may come in at different times.

You can harvest buds as they come in, but that's a lot of checking. I usually clip a small bud leaf from 3 or 4 places around the plant and create a mental average. When ready, I pull. Don;t forget, you're plants will continue to mature for a few days after you pull them.

Regular checking throughout the flowering period will familiarize you with your plant and it's progress. As far as I know, all trics operate the same. It's a biological mechanism.

Don't know how the harvest time/ high type works for predictions after the fact. Let me know.

As for the seed thing, like I said, take it for what it is worth. Hollow seeds won't grow no matter how volcanoey they are. When in doubt, plant it and sort them out later.

"Don't know how the harvest time/ high type works for predictions after the fact. Let me know."

it could be placebo since i have no way of doing it double blind but my personaly experience for the most part does correlate pritty closely with the predictions made by the chat. that is one of the reason i find the trich chat so useful. it makes ones meds much more versitile. checking triches regularly is harder with a larger grow but i do it very often. if on gets enough practice (and they have good eye sight) it is possible to tell the basic developmental stage of the magority of trichs on a give leaf or bud by just looking. however, using some form of magnification such as a jewler's loop is best for more exact predictions.

that first pic? Total horse crap. Shows up about once a month on OG and all the noobys have a fit over it....can it be true? are the seedmakers keeping some great secret? nope...it's been proven wrong several times over on that site. That pic has traveled a lot over the past oh...3-5 years I've been seeing it. Total horsecrap.

yeah total bull. If only one in ten are qualified then the other nine are all gonna be male? give me a break.Sounds like something a seed company would come up with. The way I pick good seeds from bad is to squeeze them between my fingers as hard as i can. A good seed wont bust and a bad one will. This is prolly wrong too because good ones are prolly wasted in this technique. I got some nl pure indica once a few years back from gypsy that I wouldnt have thought would pop, they were almost white, but sure enough 9 of the 10 popped. I never got to harvest them plants and they were the only seeds ive evr recieved in the mail. Wish I had them now.

By the way I was wondering if anyone eats seeds as a snack? I love the taste of a good seed.

i do not eat drug strain seeds usually because i want to save to seeds for growing but i love hemp nut! uncooked hemp nut or hemp seed is the only known single natural perfect human chow. it has everything the human body NEEDS to servive and in the proper balance. it does not have everything that the human body can use but every thing it NEEDS.

on more reason this plant is soooo increadable.

I thought id ask cause when my friends see me munching on them they get grossed out. I think they kind of taste like watermellons but not really.heck ive even had people tell me it could make me sterile. haha lets hope.

WTF?!?!?! those people have no idea what they are talking about!

i personally do not perfer uncooked hemp nut but roasted hemp nut is the shiznizit! (has less nutritional value tho.) hemp base grannola is awsome! adding hemp nut to any kind of stir fry works just like adding seseme <sp> seeds to it. hemp nut can go into so many dishes and kinds of foods it is hard to know where to begin. lol
