My Baba died this afternoon

My Baba (grandmother) on my Mom's side of the family died this afternoon. She was 97 years old and thoroughly senile.

Fortunately my Mom went home yesterday when she heard that Baba wasn't doing very well, so she spent the day with her and probably with her when she passed this afternoon.

I'm sure I'll hear about the funeral arrangements soon enough, but for now that's all the info I've got.

I lost my Gramma in 98, she played a big part in my life instilling values that I try to pass on to my own.

Thanks for the condolences, everyone. Prayers are on Sunday, the funeral is Monday. I've been asked to be a pall bearer.

My Dad will be picking me up today to take me home for the funeral.

Between prayers on Saturday and the funeral on Sunday, about 150-175 people attended, of which 45 were relatives.

She looked so very frail lying in the casket. It was quite clear she'd been sick for some time before she was taken.

Being a pall-bearer really was good for me -- it provided a sense of closure that a lot of other people didn't get. My uncle will find it particularly hard to deal with the loss, as he used to visit her 3-4 times per day in the nursing home (they only live a few blocks away.)

My Mom is taking it pretty hard, too, as is my other uncle. They didn't see her as often, but it was still their mother.

We laid her to rest along side her husband, who had died about 15 years earlier of pancreatic cancer (old farmers never used respirators and masks when working with chemicals.)
