This ole' dog is in need of an education for some new tricks....I have always grown under fluorescent lights....due to space restraints I am considering building me a sleath cabinet...and CFL's are looking like the way to go
I have been checking them out...and for the life of me I can not find any color temps on the packaging of the bulbs,as you find on the fluorescent ....just what are the kelvin temps? All I find is the "cool white" and "soft white" ratings, how does this translate into temps? Could somebody please educate me in what wattage and rating of bulbs do I need for vegging and which bulbs for flowering......and the most important question....Are these bulbs the same as the new curly designed energy efficent bulbs? I would love to switch to a high powered set up of HID/HPS lights...but space, heat issues and finances dictate other wise. Any help would be greatly appreciated:) Thanx

I believe some to most of your questions can be answered by visiting high tech gardening supplies or discount hydro websites. yes they are the same technology as the curly energy efficient bulbs but are much higher actual watt draw, as high as 250w actual or real watt draw. Cool white or bluish (can't recall kelvin temp) are for vegging while the warm or "reddish" are for flowering. what wattage you need is determined by how warm your grow space gets or how cool you can vent it to. Hope this helps a wee bit

2700K (red spectrum for flowering)
and 6400K (blue spectrum for veg stage)

For a cabinet you should consider using T5 or T8 flos, with the tubes you can have the ballast mounted outside the cabinet, resulting in cooler temps than when using cfl's that have the ballast in the bulb's socket.
Daylight bulbs range from 6000-6500K, good for vegging.

I use kitchen and bath floro tubes for my veg. I find they work the best over all for veg.imo anyways.Peace

Thanx for all the info folks...I already have a closet grow going with with 3 4' fluoro fixtures...and a starter/cloning box that is lit by fluoros...
this cabinet I am getting ready to build...will be solely for flowering...so I thought I would give the CFL's a try...since it isn't big enough for fluoro fixtures...it is an old computer server case 2' X 2' X 5'...already pre-punched for 120mm server fans...I figured it would make a nice flowering station...thus my search for info pertaining to CFL'sI have it wired now for 10 fixtures(4 on top,2 on 3 of the sides)excluding lights on the door..next comes the insulation and the mylar
Thanx again for all your info:)

this site should make it possible to preshop if you do not want to order directly from them but anyway many of their lights have temp listed. :)
