I just ran across a reference to the BOINC project on Slashdot. It's a worldwide grid computer client that lets you contribute idle CPU to various projects. I figured seeing as my computer is busily running BitTorrents 24x7, I may as well let the CPU do something to when I'm not busy using the computer (had to adjust the settings a bit so it leaves the CPU alone when I'm using it.)
I signed up for SETI@home (search for alien radio or TV signals) and SuperLinkAttechnion (biochemistry/disease/genetics research). Should be enough to keep those overnight CPU cycles busy!
One neat thing about the project is it can make use of CUDA on NVidia CPUs (which I have), which can dramatically accelerate certain types of computing.
