making BHO

just to sart off I love hash, but I had to try this out. A few days ago me and my friend, made some of the best honey oil we've ever made. We followed the same steps as in the Making BHO artcle in TY#18 and it turned out awesome. We used a glass baster just the tube no bulb, some unbleached coffee filters and Colibri butane and a pyrex casserole dish to collect the liquid butane/honey oil mixture. I use 18 grams of outdoor popcorn buds from my harvest this year and got 1.1 grams in one wash. I might do a second wash but I'm happy with the first.

This oil is not even really like oil it's more like sap or even like a pressed piece of bubblehash. Its very hard and if i don't heat it it shatters when i try to take a toke off, and it's almost clear. You can press it like hash and work it in your finger too.

Yes PF you are right to have been surprised that it made it's way into isssue #18 but if you read the article you would have seen that they were very clear on the dangers. The person the wrote the article is very knowledgeable in making BHO so that is why published it.

Now I have to say that I myself LOVE quality honey oil and use it in many of my baked goodies. The other ingredient that I use for my baked goodies is Kief

Oh i follow every safety precaution there is makin bho. I've been makin it since I was fourteen so i've learned alot over the years. i've just gotten into hash more recently, but bho is so damn easy to make as long as your safe. We used to even make it at school in the parking lot in the back of my pickup. But not anymore lol.

But the way shown with the turkey baster is one of the best ways to make it, every piece of bud/shake gets fully saturated with the butane because of the small I.D. of the turkey baster it's about 3/4". You don't need to do second runs.

Thumbs up marco for having this in your mag because even though it's a controversial topic in the cannabis community it is good to see it represented and described in a safe and pretty easy to do method. I've heard of people dying from making BHO and I have to say it's sad when anyone loses a life, but people are still going to make BHO and may not have the knowledge or ability to do it safely so thanks marco for having this article because if we don't talk about it more peole will get hurt.

I make Holy Anointing Oil from formula in Exodus. This is great ingested or applied topically. A cancer patient I and friends have been helping is doing well on HAO and other concentrate based medicines. Three months ago she had dark rings around her eyes, she could not sleep more than 1 hour, had strong pain, was nauseated most of the time and threw up what she ate.

Oils made like this are one drop doses to some people. Ratio for HAO is 50/50 if you intend to ingest or 33/66 (BHO/OIL) for topical applications. Check out virgin coconut oil.

I hope everybody knows that extracting hash oil by solvent (butane, alcohol, acetone) is illegal in CA, even if you have a Dr.'s recommendation. It's H&S 11379.7, which carries 3, 5, or 7 years in state prison. CAREFULL!

Not to be controversial or anything,
I know BHO works as a way to imbibe cannabis,

But BUTANE is a dangerous chemical that I want nowhere near my body!

I can taste the butane even after it has supposedly been 'evaporated'.

Did this article discuss that butane is dangerous to the health?

The best way to make your tinctures etc is ICE WATER EXTRACTION. NO CHEMICALS AT ALL.

No medicine will be approved if it is made with butane, ever.

most people dont heat after the evaperate to make it hard and whiter and gets the last of the poo out. i make this stuff all the time and is how i do it., i to used to taste that nbasty stuff..but not this way.

ive seen some nasty accidents from this as well. and see so many posts out there and no saftey regard at all in the how to. its as easy as turning on a light switch. and gets the spark.
im going to get into the ice extraction now soon.

I learned my lesson when making alcohol tincture. While cooking it down on the stove it set off all the CO detectors. I figure I was 'that close' to being number one in the Darwin Awards. Now it's glycerin tincture for me.

I think the people that have problems extracting with flammable solvents are destined to hurt themselves anyway. It's common sense. If they need to be reminded of the obvious dangers, then they are stupid anyway and destined to get hurt sooner or later. It's just too bad that others may be hurt, but I'll bet they might also drive a large SUV totally stoned, too. We are all at the mercy of stupid people!

Here in Canada even if you have a permit to grow and use marijuana as your medicine you are NOT ALLOWED to have derivitives ie oil , hash , etc. Now kief is legal to have which I find strange as you have to tumble the meds in order to extract the kief. I really don't understand why ice water extractions are illegal to med patients.

As most of the members here know I love my ice water extractions!

I'm very disturbed that TY's article on making BHO didn't say one word about it being a felony in CA, and this magazine is based here. I'm out in the middle of my yard extracting with my turkey baster without a care in the world, thinking I'm legal. Thanks alot, TY, I could be in prison now doing 7 years? WTF?????

A simple word about the laws would've been proper IMHO. I didn't know it was a felony until I read a little obscure pdf file about a court case in CA, after many weeks of researching BHO extraction.

we just went through this in another thread., some htink they can fight this in court cause they dont know the laws....its up to us to knwo them laws...not to be provided by a web site or a magazine.

I pointed this out in the original article, and I would like to reiterate...

No nylon clothing of any sort. Especially socks. A spark from your socks happens in the ideal spot for ignition as the butane fumes sink. Nylon clothing has been the downfall of a good many of those BHO accidents.

wrenchmonkey, it seems like you're getting CA (Canada) mixed up with CA (California). Marco and others stated it's illegal in Canada, even if you're a federal exemptee. If you're in California, I don't see your problem here. You can find references to BHO and how to make it all over the internet. There's an article on Wikipedia about it. I guess I'm missing your point. And driving an SUV stoned is still safe and a lot safer than driving one under the legal limit for alcohol. I guess I missed your point there, too. BHO has been outlawed here in California, due to???you guessed it spontaneous combustion. I for one love BHO, but getting it at a dispensary is near impossible. Hash, kief and tinctures you can readily get at dispensaries. Most will not even touch BHO because of all the rogue cops and DA's who can't read a 13 year old law. The SUV on the other hand, I am actually okay with so long as you are not so stoned your'e head is spinning. I have never seen anyone get in an accident and blame it solely on cannabis. I am sure there are people who have been in accidents and the cause being cannabis. Just they are never "bad" enough to be on the news. I have seen accidents where the alcohol and cannabis was related, but they almost always say the cannabis was not a factor. Maybe I am okay with it because I am one of many who drive an suv and smoke, or smoke while driving when the kids are not in the car with me. It's one of my favorite places to get an afternoon toke in to wind down. Drive to the store, get some groceries, pull over on the way home in a lot(usually at a medical office or some other lot full of cars), smoke a bowl or two and head home where I can really medicate. This prevents me from walking into the house and bombarded with negative energy, I can walk in and choose what and who I want to deal with.
