DEC arrests blind woman for dealing in cannabis

THE Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has arrested a blind person for trafficking in cannabis.
In a media statement issued in Lusaka yesterday, DEC spokesperson John Nyawali stated that the Commission arrested a blind woman of Chilongo village in Nchelenge district for trafficking in cannabis.
He also stated that a 66- year-old headman of Milambo village in chief Hanjalika's area of Mazabuka district was arrested for cannabis cultivation.
"Noah Ng'andu was arrested after cultivating 1.1 tonnes of the psychotropic substance. He was arrested together with nine other people from the same area who were found with 521 kilograms of loose cannabis," Nyawali stated. "Meanwhile, 54 people were arrested countrywide in the last four days for trafficking in various quantities of cannabis with a total weight of 1.7 tonnes.
Among them is Agness Chishimba, 52, who was found with over six kilograms of cannabis hidden in her house. Ms. Chishimba who is blind, was found selling the prohibited psychotropic substance."
Nyawali appealed to civic and traditional leaders to help sensitise their subjects on the dangers of illicit drugs.
