POT USE WILL FOLLOW IN FOOTSTEPS OF TOBACCO

In his Aug. 13 letter ( Even Senate Is Behind Legalization Of Pot ), Kevin Bowen states that I am misguided in my view that Marc Emery cannot compare himself to Mandela, Gandhi or King because, like them, Marc Emery and other politicians are acting on behalf of an oppressed minority.

I hope that the majority are not naive enough to believe that Marc Emery et al are acting on behalf of medical marijuana users.

Rather, they have their own agenda in place -- that of placing marijuana cigarettes on store shelves next to tobacco.

I am sure that just as physicians with ties to the tobacco industry downplayed tobacco's harmful effects, physicians connected to the marijuana legalization lobby portray marijuana as non-addictive, safe and therapeutic.

As more and more of our friends and relatives succumb to lung cancer, have we learned nothing from the past?

Just as most tobacco smokers became addicted in their youth, the same will happen as marijuana legalizers and the marijuana industry lead our youth to believe that marijuana is a safe medicine.

So dig your head in the sand, Mr. Bowen, and let us go down that same path as we have with tobacco and make marijuana legal and consequently available to everyone.

Absolutely! The recreational users want it sold right alongside the vodka and beer in every corner store.

Oh, wait. That's right -- you have to go to a government regulated liquor store to buy alcohol intoxicants. So just maybe it would be a good idea to have similar restrictions on commercial cannabis sales and production as there are for beer and wine. :p

But hey, you just can't appease the fear mongers. They're still afraid that music might lead to dancing and the ultimate destruction of society. ;)

OTOH, I could see the legalization of cannabis raising hell with the anti-smoking bylaws in bars. :)

I want to see cannabis grown legally at home just like alcohol can be brewed for personal use.

Ok...maybe this is paranoid..but if we cannot trust our government to keep the DEA out, how in heck can I trust them by applying to be legal?

Just a thought..........
