I don't know if that's what I'm doing or not.
I've got a few cuttings with their 'root' in the bubbling air in water, and that appears to be pretty much in the dark, as shown in this picture.

Will this shit work? I was told in chat this should take maybe 8 +/- a few days to yield roots.

As long as there is air and water you will be fine...you should see the roots growing soon. You are gonna want to think about what happens when they do root. The roots will shoot outwards and not down into the water. This means with the small holes you have drilled in the wood they may be kind of hard to get out of there. I drill 1.5-2" inch holes where each one will be going in. Then use asomething to hold the cutting where you want it, I have used a pool noodle in the past cut into 1 inch sections then cut a slit into it and roll it up, the 2" neoprene pads work great too. In the future you should avoid wood, when moist it tends to do some funky things to your environment. What I have used in the past and still kind of use is a plastic Shoebox size container you can find at wally's world(or canadian tire, or whatever you guys have) drill the holes into the lid and paint the outside of the container black or any other color to stop the light from coming through. run an airline to a 6" aquarium stone then through your lid and finally to the pump. add cuts, water and grow. Usually you will get roots in 10 maybe 12 days at the most. I have seen roots as soon as 5 days with these types of systems, the key is the closer to ideal(pH,EC,Temp, etc) you get the faster they will root but they will even root with un pH'd tap water, just alot longer and not a good success rate. Keep us updated and let us know how it goes! if you have any questions ask, there are plenty of us to answer!

Oh damn I've immersed the cutting 1/2" into the water - I guess it's supposed to be outside the water, right?
Two air pumps and two air stones so yeah there's lots of air and water. I'll post a pic.

Here's a pic with the cuttings about 2" beneath their wood bracing.
Hopefully when the cutting has rooted I can pull the root and the leaves will slide nicely out of this 3/8" hole in the wood.

See the bubbling water? Ok the cuttings are now located ABOVE but not immersed in the bubbling water, I presume this is how it's done. Otherwise, I can dunk the stem into the water. Either way is good with me.

This is my first time really doing cuttings at all. I tried once before but got impatient.
I guess you have to wait about a week at least to see any results from these gals.

They look good, you see the leafs under the wood? cut all that down to stem. The roots will form from these spots first. for the first few days you can have the tip of the stem immersed in water maybe 1/4". as the water dissipates you shouldn't need to worry about it. for reference, your roots will grow either way. It will take a few cloning sessions to figure out whats best for you. I like to drop the stem so it just breaks the surface of the water and in two days it's usually 1/4-1/2" away from the water. and you should see results in a week for sure, you will see the stem becoming callused then within a couple days you should see tiny roots popping out of lil' white spots. But you got the idea right and the technique is pretty much there, your'e roots should be there soon.

Ok thanks Diskrete I cut them all back as suggested and they are 1/4" to 1/2" immersed, and in a few days I'll lift 'em up a bit. Or I'll just let the normal decline of the reservoir happen as I water the plants up top.
Man that's a cool idea.
Anyway, I've made the area where the roots are very dark by putting some plastic pieces wherever light was shining in on the cuttings.

See this is why this hobby ROCKS - indoor gardening at 3 AM doing bong hits - does it get any better?
:D
Hi Rikkus,
You should get fine results. I do something very similar when I clone. I make the hole bigger and in styrofoam that's been cut to fit my container so they fit a rapid rooter and just float that in the aerated water lettuce raft style. Usually run about 90% successful. All the best, --r

if you find this isnt working for you here is something that works great and is fairly inexpensive to build that will give you amazing results.

great job snafu,I have a bunch of those tubs with lids, not much of a clone guy,buy I am not spending hundreds of dollars on a system, thanks much,I am sure to build one,as I have said before, the knowledge on this site is irreplaceable, and lots of common sense, peace

Hmm well no root action yet. Hopefully we see something in the next few days.
I've used both the classic method and this aeroponic stuff - neither seems to be rooting yet.
Great video, thanks.
