View Full Version : Blade Runner (Remastered Director's Cut)
It's hard to believe this movie was released in 1982. Almost 30 years ago!
Yet the movie itself has really stood the test of time and remains a classic. The effects don't look dated, the music isn't stuck in the '80s, and it's just a generally pleasurable experience to watch this movie again.
One of the true 10/10 classics of all time.

While the director's version of Blade Runner is Ridley Scott's preferred version, I have seen both in the theatre and I personally liked the theatrical cut of the film more for its voice-over than anything stylistic. I have seen the film in a cinema over 30 times. And I own the letterbox dvd of the original cut.
Still after 28 years one of my top 10 favourite films of all time.

relaxing with my angels after today's Indoor gardening expo, and after the total 7 interviews with the Québec media.
Personally I'm a fan of Director's Cuts. They tend to be more visual and include all the scenes the director wanted that had to get cut to make the movie fit a 2-hour play budget. Of course nowadays it's not unusual for a movie to run three hours, so I have a feeling there will be fewer director's cuts for such movies in the future. I mean, can you imagine another hour of footage for a director's cut of Avatar? The movie would be so long it'd be virtually unwatchable!

I was lucky enough to have a dad that was into sci-fi/fantasy and didn't mind taking his kid to the movies. So we saw this double fetaured with Tron at the .99 Tuesday movie night.
I would also agree the theatrical release was better and I understand what you mean groo.
In my low top ten for all time and top five for Sci-Fi.
On a off track note I just saw Lawrence of Arabia on a Sharp 52" LED and WOW to see it in true letter box.

BladeRunner AND Tron together, now I'm just drooling in Sci-Fi heaven.
The biggest problem with the world today is that no-one is producing such compelling visions of the future!
But groo, the effects are getting dated, compare the Bladerunner model work with the greenscreen effects of Alice in Wonderland (the crappy Dismay version that just came out and completely underused all the great actors in it).

Blade Runner double feature with the Directors Cut in 70 mm Super Dolby I have seen with Tron (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0084827/) and I have also see the Original Theatrical release with Fritz Lang's Classic Metropolis (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0017136/)
I had the privilege at the now defuncted Park Theatre on Cambie St in Vancouver.
The Student U building at UBC has a cinema that shows to this day a wonderful collection of older films. A good part of my film education was spent in that theatre. I have fabulously great memories of that time. Made all the better with mędicating with Mędicinal Cannabis, both then and now.
30 plus years and on going.

Alice in Wonderland does a "better" job of F/X from a technical perspective, but there is nothing in Blade Runner that needs those improved F/X to be believable. Blade Runner is one big video game cut-scene, rendered with a top-notch engine. Engines haven't changed all that much since then, they've just been hardware accelerated and the programming has been simplified in some cases.

Oh yeah now you guys are talking!
This is a sweeeet movie, I like both cuts to be honest and always try to catch this at the local theater when playing on the midnight screenings.
Really one of my favorites and Harrison Ford is one of my favorite actors, Rutger Hauer is also great in Blade Runner, I always thought Christopher Walken would have been a great pick also for the Roy Batty character but Hauer did an awesome job.
Yeah, I like Walken, too. He's good at playing creepy unsettling characters, which is a great fit for the Roy Batty character.
I've also thought Walken would have made a good Joker in the Batman movies.
Wow, finally something it looks like we all (most it looks like so far) agree on. Great movies mentioned. I like them all.:)

loved the movie...been a long time since I saw the Theatrical version...is there a good blu-ray cut available?
The book (Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?) was fantastic. Phillp K. Dick was a paranoid genious of a writer.

Rutger Hauer was in Nova Scotia last month filming a movie called 'Hobo With a Shotgun'.
Just sayin'...things like that excite us way over here in Nova Scotia.
