NEW ORLEANS (AP) - An LSU Health Sciences Center researcher has been awarded a $4 million grant for a 5-year study on how cannabinoids, the principal psychoactive component of marijuana, can affect HIV patients.

Dr. Patricia Molina will lead a team examining how the substance produces subtle changes in gene activity that can affect how a patient responds to HIV.

The grant was awarded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse, a division of the National Institutes of Health.

Molina says the research could lead to new HIV treatment therapies.

and I have good news to report...
My virus is undetectable as usual.....
My T cell count is 1,060(which my doc said is well into normal range for the general population:) :) ) and my best ever,

and my CD4(or T cell) percentage is 50.1 , which my doctor said is the highest level of CD4 cells he has EVER seen in 15 years of treating HIV/AIDS patients:D :D . More than half of the blood cells in my body are immune system cells, which is unheard of said my doctor.
Both good news.

On another note some HIV/Aids patients are also co-infected with Hepatitus C, and I happen to be one of them. I will be going on treatment as I am very strong and my gastroenterologist feels my best chance to beat Hep C is while not too much damage has been done to my liver.

Cannabis has played an integral part in me being able to stay on my HAART regimen with minimal side effects. I am able to eat, albeit after a few hours of medicating has passed.
I hope that I can beat this Hepatitus C with cannabis as a crutch to help me battle with the so called side effects of treatment including Ribo Rage.

I know that cannabis works and I am living proof it does....lets hope it gets me through my treatment and my Hep C is a thing of the past. .
