Grow-ops shut down

South-East RCMP seized almost 1,000 marijuana plants while raiding several outdoor grow-ops on Monday.
Sgt. Harry Brown says several teams of police officers descended upon wooded areas in Shediac, Cap-Pelé, Saint-André-Leblanc, Portage, Shemogue and Port Elgin, where intelligence and tips from the public led them to believe they would find marijuana plants. Officers seized 965 plants which, if fully grown, would yield more than 482,000 marijuana joints.
The plants were seized from approximately 12 different locations in those six communities and police don't believe any of the grow-ops were connected to each other. The biggest one had as many as 400 plants while the smallest one had three plants.
No one was found at any of the locations and no arrests have been made, though the investigation is ongoing.
"That's 965 plants that won't fall into the hands of our kids or organized crime," said Brown, when asked if he thinks the operation put a dent in the drug trade.
In addition to these seizures, District 4 South-East RCMP have executed 16 drug-related search warrants this year.
