A friend bought some of these "auto-flowering" seeds produced by Solar Warrior from the Vancouver Seed Bank in July. By July 23rd 8 sprouted and have been raised under 18 hours of light per day. It took 34 days to show sex as opposed to the 21 days that it was supposed to take.

The 6 females were transferred to DWC a couple of weeks ago and are still under 18 hrs/day with a 400W EYE Hortilux bulb. Growth is not remarkably fast and there are very few flowers appearing. Just the usual pair at each axis as in pre-flowering. The tops were FIMed a week ago and side branching is doing well.

First time with these and wondering if anyone has more experience with auto-flowering strains and what to expect with different strains and various growing environments.

We really expected to be seeing big phat buds by now and don't know whether to be disappointed or are we doing something wrong? I know that switching to 12/12 lighting would likely get better bud response but the whole point of getting these seeds was for breeding more for outdoor growing next year at higher latitudes. Spring planting is at 15 hours/day light, 17.5 all summer and 15 hours again by the end of Aug. New seeds will be grown indoors with hours of light to mimic the outdoor lighting to see if that makes a difference in performance before spring planting is undertaken.

There is still time to get a faster strain and ready seeds for spring if anyone has any suggestions. We were thinking LowRyder #2 crossed with AK-47 or White Widow and looking for opinions.

no, you're not doing anything wrong. these fast finishing outdoor plants are a distaster to grow indoors. Even with the same photoperiod, etc.

EWS is not a large yielder at all, but a relly fast finisher. the only way to truly test it is to make crossed batches of beans for 2+ seasons and label them. grow some of each in the summer and then you know what you'll like best next summer.

I'm sorry, but thats the only sure way with outdoor autos that are dependant on the intense light of the summer (many times more than indoor lights can give)

Thanks for the input. It's nice to know that it's not all our fault then.

The seed bank replaced these with some free LowRyder and they're being a bugger to start.

Oh well, live and learn I guess.

The EWS went all hermie so are chopped out so as not to mess anything else up.

Really nice smoke tho but hardly worth the effort.

Thanks again.
