Hi all as it,s time for me to start another grow i have been to my local grow shop just for general stuff like new bulb,s & nutes, when i was there i saw my system but with the new air pots so i got 4 x 6.5l airpots to replace my 11l square pots.

Does anyone have any experience with these new pots & air pruning your root,s?.

Here is a link so you can all see what im on about if you have not yet seen them.

I'm using another version and they're OK. Nothing spectacular but they do store nicer. I'll know more in a couple weeks when I start chopping and get a good luck at my root wads. Plants look nice in them at least and they're happy enough. I'm using 3 gallon size for this run and yields... can't say yet really but it'll probably average a zip and change per gallon excluding one of the Jack Herrers that might go over 2 alone. Remind me in a couple weeks to throw up some root porn. --r

Im glad someone else has/is trying them. I usually use 11l squate pots with my wilma 4 pot recirculating dripper so i can quite easily change to the air pots.I have yet to see a grow & would be very interested in your experience.

Yes they are very easy to store mine are flat packed & real simple to assemble. I also think if you do a lot of transplanting these will be much easier for transplanting as the side,s will just peal away.

Ill start germination next week then they will go straight into the 6.5l airpots to live out there lives.

Im really excited about these new pots & the price is very reasonable actually the 6.5l air pot cost me the same as a 11l square pot & if they perform as they should ill buy a few more.

Keep us updated brother would love your input on yeild & quality from the air pot cimpared to your normal pots.

Oh what medium are you using ill be using clay but i have herd great results from coco & soil mix,s.

I'm using coco/perlite at 50/50. It really allows for comparatively big plants in smaller pots. I love the stuff. --r

edit: and cost wise it's a wash over my standard pots so the storage alone will have me continue using these. Like at least 10 to 1 over a standard pot as far as size.

Here's a link to the ones I've been using. They're really just relatively durable cloth grow bags... in fact I got some for a test drive and started using them the last time skunk was thinking about giving them a try and posed a has anyone tried a few months ago. Always looking to improve yields with little or no work and on the low tech end of cheap ;) --r

The one,s rxb is using are slightly different but work very simular i think. Here is a little info on the airpots & the material they are made from.

The Superoots Air-Pot is a recyclable, reusable plastic container that actively enhances the quality of the root systems of plants.
This revolutionary approach to containerizing tree stock produces fabulous, non-spiralling root systems that are impossible to develop in any other available container.
Made of recycled HDPE, the Superoots Air-Pot is circular in shape with a perforated sidewall, which is textured like an egg carton. There are no flat surfaces to deflect roots and start the spiraling process.
The inward pointing cones direct the root towards the hole in the outward pointing cones where the air density in the soil is too great and therefore the apical cells at the very tip of the root dehydrate, or are air-pruned.
The response of the plant to this air-pruning is to send out more roots to compensate for the loss, which leads to the build up of a dense and fibrous radial root system in a dramatically short time.
Superoots Air-Pots can be made to any diameter in a variety of heights and can be used as pots complete with base or without a base.
The real benefits of using Superoots Air-Pots are that they:
Eliminate root circling.Reduce growing time on the nursery.
Simplify production.Double - at least - the "shelf-life" of
stock.
Reduce losses dramatically.
Ensure Superior Performance in Extremes
of Weather.
The Air-Pot is made of recycled HDPE.

the system i use is now coming with airpots or traditional square pots so lets see how they do,ill be using 30% less medium & the yeild because of the unique root system should be also increased.

I started chopping plants a week or so ago but the root structure is unlike what I've seen before. Unfortunately a pic shows nothing, which is kind of cool in itself. What it looks like is a fist size root ball directly below the plant stem and an absolute monstrous web of roots that's virtually invisible to the eye but it holds the whole ball of coco and perlite (yes, it has invisibly locked perlite in place) together like a web network. The roots outside the fist look like about half pound test line... think what you'd string a booby trap in Iraq with so it's invisible to the eye. The only issue I see with the smart pots I'm using is that they're cloth so need to be cleaned thoroughly between grows since cloth will mold but the cost and storage capabilities make up for it.

Oh and yield... sort of mixed but they certainly don't inhibit growth. The plants had suffered some abuse and I lost 11 of 15 due to a timer malfunction during some time away over the holidays. Anyway, I used 10" approximately 3 gallon pots. I normally bench mark all of my experimenting at 1 oz per gallon of root space. Of the 4 plants the Killing Fields yielded 1.8 oz (a little light but one of the most amazing rhubarb flavors I've tasted, a keeper regardless), one Sannie's Jack went 1.4 oz (light and OK flavor wise, good daytime meds), another Sannies Jack that went 4.7 oz (fat with a beautiful lemon haze kind of taste), and the Green Manalishi went 3.9 (I just love this G13 based plant).

Was just browsing the web and found some of these air pots in Toronto.

I have never dealt with this company so I am not giving a recommendation, just passing the info along..
