This way was passed on to me by a guru of herbology. It has worked best for me, taking out the guess work of sprouting seeds in dirt and speeding up the process of the damp paper towel method.

soak your seeds 24 hours in water; I use a shot glass simply because you don't need such a large container.
Place soaked seeds between damp paper towels and place them in a ziploc baggie.
Before closing baggie, blow a puff of air in it--leaving it like a plastic pillow.

I have had some seeds sprout within 24 hours, but I will wait no longer than 3 days for them to sprout.

I place the sprouted seeds in dirt, approximately 3/4 deep. I make sure the dirt is pretty damp already so the seeds don't get washed to the surface when I water them again.

When the sprouts break ground, I let them grow till they start to grow their leaves with the jagged edges. At that point, I transplant them to individual pots or place them directly in the ground outside.

Happy Growing

I have had great success germinating seeds in a glass of RO/DI (reverse osmosis) water, in the dark at temperatures around 80 degrees for 18 to 24 hours. Then planting the seeds pointed tip down 1/8" to 1/4" deep in seed starter soils under fluorescent lights. Seeds will sprout in 2 days. I like this method best because it minimizes early root damage during planting and reduces risk of mold/fungus problems.

I fill a black plastic tray with peat pellets and after they have been soaked place a seed pointy end down into the peat pellet. Put propagation dome over the tray and place in sunlight or under florescent light, will have seedlings in days. I usually leave the lot in for 10 days and have great sucess with this method...

I've been ponderring the peat pellets, I just had a positivley catastrofic run of low germination using peat pellets, with rare Pepper seeds also.

So I switched to fresh Rockwool cubes, and have hade considerably better luck. I like the cubes because their sterile (can be boiled, or rinsed) and their pH neutral (~glass).

I also prefer a wider base container than a shot glass, since more surface area to volume ratio provides more gas exchange (more oxygen). I use 2 inch diameter styrofoam dishes covered with an air gap.

I remember someone mentioning using Super Thrive (ST), but in my experience this should only delay germination by about three days after the ST is removed and delay it until then. Has anyone done a side by side comparison with ST vs. no ST?

One question...should I remove the tequila from the shot glass 1st? :D
