I was wondering if anyone knows of any fast drying or curing techniqures to test your plants progress for those of us with out the patients to wait untill harvest? sor far i have found a space heater and hanging works but still takes a little while....

I used to use one of those mini greenhouse setups, from canadian tire. it stands about 36 in high by 30 in wide and 30 in deep. it is encased by plastic with a zipper front and has two shelves in it. I placed a sliding bug screen on each shelf. ( the bug screens you could buy for installing in an open window in the summer) once the harvest was spread out I placed a fan near the bottom blowing in through the open zipper. I only had a small opening in the bottom, and an outlet at the top. you have to watch it almost hourly or you will overdry it quickly. this still takes 20 hrs or so and that will depend on the bud density.

I thought I read somewhere that I was bad for the buds to dry them too quickley.

Though, as impatient as I am, I'd like to know about how to do it quickly and efficiently as well

Freeze drying with DRY ICE (solid CO2) works fairly fast.

The method I read in HT is to put down a layer of Dry Ice in a trash bag add the bud on top of it and then top with another layer of Dry Ice, then put in a cool dry place overnight. In the morning (provided you use enought Dry Ice) the stuff has been freeze dried and the THCd9 has also been completely converted out.

Dry Ice is available at many places that make bagged ice. Also since its Halloween season, many places will be selling Dry Ice as seasonal item for spooky special effects. A five pound block cost arround $7 US, lst year.

CO2 drying can also be done simply by pumping a steady stream of bottled CO2 through the plant matter, a tube works well for this, but it takes more time and more CO2.

And of couse the unmentionably harsh method.

10 second bursts on a plate. Move your herb over to a dry portion of the plate. Do this until you are satisfied that it will smoke. For those of us that have a Volcano this step only needs to be done for 30 seconds max with fresh herb. For the smokers out there it may take as long as 60 seconds.... 6 ten second bursts...be sure and move to a dry area of the plate after each 10 seconds. Your herb will be dry enough to smoke and will get you through "rough" times until proper drying is achieved. I have found that this method works way better than the classic oven at 200 for 20 minutes approach. About half of potentcy will be lost this way though,,,,but in a pinch.. better than nothing. Not recommended, but to date its the fastest thing you can do other than burn or vaporize fresh material (difficult), and probably tastes about the same.

(Please no critism)

Preheat oven at 225F to 250F. The water boils out at 212F, THC doesn't.
Put your material spread thinly on foil.
Put it in the oven for as long as you can beir it. LOL. (a few minutes).
Check it a few times.
Flip it when its half done if you really need to DO SOMETHING...
Then its dried to your satifaction, take it out and let it cool.
It's done, and so would I be, but...

OK there is a faster way but it sucks...
Microwave it! It makes the Mircrowave oven stink like burnt salad after wards. Don't do it in someone else's Microwave w/o permission.
Microwave heat water molecules, its how they work. The water is boiled off. It pops sometimes from this. You'll have to play around with the timing, short bursts on high shouldn't get to hot (lost THC). Experiment (like Frankenstien!!!).

EDIT: Pot Head Pete, you beat me to post, You Dastardly Devil You!!!

(see above) This is the only fast dry method I know that doesn't mess up the taste too bad. Plain old paper bag in the sun -- retains the heat while absorbing the moisture. You can throw some moisture abosrbing silicate (steal some from your meds) in there too to help.

Also, paper bag (or Altoids container -- the round ones-- propped slightly open) on your car dashboard in the sun can dry out a good bud in an hour or two. It seems to get even more oven-y on the dashboard.

I've smoked bud several hours after picking this way.

Unfortunately -- the taste won't really get good until the chlorophyll breaks down -- which may still take a month or more even if the bud is quik dried.
