Stronach blasts new Liberal pals in latest report

By IAN ROBERTSON, Toronto Sun
TORONTO -- Poor Belinda Stronach. No chance now for rewrites.

Reading her latest parliamentary report and Tory brag brochure, one might be forgiven for thinking she's still true-blue.

But with so little time and her boots itchin' to do some walkin', the Magnanimous heiress' anti-Liberal blathering is gleefully being sent to the media by folks who aren't too pleased at the turncoating of Canada's latest cabinet minister, a move that earned her CNN's Political Play of the Week.

Sniping in Report from Parliament Hill at "two years of inaction on the part of the Liberal government," she boasts of leading a posse of Conservative MPs to rustle the Americans into reopening their border to Canadian cattle. Cows are big in Aurora!

Mooing along, the Newmarket-Aurora MP shyly vows "someone has to defend the interests of the hard-hit Canadian farmers and ranchers. If the Liberals won't get the job done, because they are too distracted by scandal, the Conservatives are more than willing to step up (to) the plate." Okay, so she left a word out!

LIBERAL CORRUPTION

Further branding her future pals as cads in the reports sent to constituents this week, Stronach varyingly says she is "disappointed," then "deeply disappointed" by recent revelations of "government corruption and the abuse of taxpayer dollars."

Ouch! Who knew, but as the new Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development, she'll now get the task later this year of helping her new pink pals implement Gomery recommendations into the very scandal that threatened to topple the Liberals.

In the same report, the millionairess some constituents regard as Benedict Belinda takes a slice out of the budget for not kicking back enough taxes, a promised $16 a year, representing "the cost of a medium-sized pizza" in her riding.

She smokes out the Liberals for failing to help police crack organized crime marijuana grow- ops, takes a pot-shot at them for trying to decriminalize the weed, then wags an accusing finger at the government for not returning enough tax bucks to Ontario.

TORY 'HEROINE'

In the blue-tone brochure with the Conservative label hidden deep down on the back, Stronach even includes gushy quotes from a ponderous local daily paper that calls her a Tory "heroine."

It also lifts part of an article in the April 13 Maclean's magazine -- dated 34 days before she jumped ship -- which quotes now-former party peers calling her "one of the most devoted and well-liked MPs in the Conservative caucus."

Okay, so the flyer also mentions her considerable charity work, hospital fundraising and "improving our quality of life."

Auroraronians and Newmarketonians are invited on the brochure to call her constituency office: 905-836-7722.

A taped voice answered, promising "staff will be happy to call you back." They didn't. Perhaps too busy recalling brochures?
