my question is when starting to flower when is it safe to trim off lower branches so that the upper half can produce better buds,i've seen lots of plants that are bare from mid down.....thanx in advance..........Tat

I generally leave the bottom branches on and clean out the little stuff leaving just the top and maybe the nextcouple of buds underneath. I don't know if I lose any yield, I do get a few extra nice little colas and the upper plant seems to do well.

Good luck with your buds.

I should mention that I do clear the really weak and puny bottm branches when I tranfer the plants into the flower room.

i do bonzai/tokiary and i too at about week 2.5-4, depending on strain, trim off anything that is obviously underproducing compared to the cannapy. it is my belief that this provides more energy to the top buds and they get bigger and fuller than they would have otherwise because energy is not wasted on parts of the plant not receive dirrect light (i.e., sucking up energy from parts of the plant that ARE receiving direct light.) instead of a bunch of popcorn buds i end up with more, larger colas.

mine are already in flower stage, would it be ok to remove the lower small branches or would it be to late and just wait till my next grow.

thier on the 11th day of flowering..

i'm just waiting for the day a few buds get some size so that i can start to medicate a bit so that it will charge my appetite so i can start to be able to eat, this wieght loss is starting to really worry me its throwing my diabetis way off scale and if i dont start getting my appetite back i;m scared i may go in to shock or worse diabetic coma,

Yeah chief,
Try as hard as you can to hold off on early chopping.
I was doing a bit on an outdoor plant I had this summer, and if I just would have left it alone, those 'few' buds I trimmed off, if I had let them grow out I'd still have meds instead of sitting here sifting borrowed, dry, brown, desert schwag to make oven hash.

I know that it's hard, but half the secrect to a sucessful grow ids to have the patience to wait it out. I wish I had a suggestion for your appetite.
I know what you mean though, I stopped wearing a belt and now use a piece of rope. I got tired of popping new holes in my belt. But I have an appetite, I just don't have any food :)

Check how much this person trims their plants just before flowering, looks excessive and drastic at first, but they filled in nicely. The grower grows for roots while vegging.

Thanx for posting that Hash, i have to say i totally aprove of that persons technique and results if one can use those kinds of plant counts. people are always trying to tell me that trimming stresses the plant out too much and causes hermies. that link provided good support for my stance that such bad results from trimming have more to do with genes and other factors in the growing technique than the trimming itself.

It's really a matter of preference, as long as it's not late in flower. I prefer to trim my plants either just before they go into flower, or before about week 3-4. Once you notice the bottom half of the plant growing, it's time to trim off the spindly little stems down below. Once you get really far into flower the lower buds should be so shaded that they don't grow very much.

i'm glad you share this opinion too. :)
