'Nuclear Option' Vote Just Hours Away!

CALL YOUR SENATOR

With the vote tomorrow, the Senate must hear from us!

U.S. Capitol Switchboard:
(202) 224-3121

Nearly two million Americans have signed petitions opposing the Nuclear Option. Let's finish with a push to the end:

In less than 24 hours, the Senate will face a stark choice between 200 years of checks and balances and a dangerous new world where principle is sacrificed to brute power. At stake is the future of the Supreme Court and decades of social justice progress.
Senate Majority Leader Frist is expected to detonate his destructive nuclear option tomorrow, pushing for a rule-breaking declaration from the chair -- probably Vice President Dick Cheney -- to abolish the filibuster as a check on the president's power to fill the courts with dangerous ideologues. In response, PFAW and our progressive partners have stepped up our activities:

*
We have already begun delivering stacks and stacks of petitions -- which now contain the names of almost 2 million Americans -- to the offices of key senators. We will continue the delivery until there is a vote -- add your name to the petition now.

*
Starting tomorrow morning at 7 a.m., we and other progressive organizations will be holding a protest filibuster on Capitol Hill, where we will read some of the comments from signers of our petition opposing the Nuclear Option. See our events page for more information.

*
When the vote is imminent, we''ll activate our Massive Immediate Response system, so that tens of thousands of text messages will reach mobile phones of activists around the country.

Please check www.pfaw.org for the latest information.

I think the term is used in a melodramatic form in regards to breaking the filibuster.

Filibusters in and of themselves are melodramatic, instead of talking nonsense, which is all a filibuster is, and wasting all that energy and time they, the Dems. should be out knocking on doors for the next election.

Talk about your "misguided" "nuclear" missile.

Yup Doug you are right. The "Nuclear Option" is another term for a filibuster.

Although a filibuster will DELAY a vote...it never eliminates the vote, just postpones it till later when the opposition usually "barters" to get it passed with some stupid new laws "tacked on"...and usually most haven't even read the the new things that are tacked on. Politicians are always acting suprised: "I didn't know THAT was in there...I never saw that". Why? cause they don't like reading 1200 page laws to look for the "hidden laws" that were added during revision......crazy morons.. :rolling eyes:
