The Batphone rang today.
Commissioner Gordon had an Emergency Computer repair problem.
I grab my utility belt (Phillips Head Screw Driver), slide down the Bat Pole (Walk down the stairs) and jump into the BatMobile (1990 Peguot).
When I arrive on the scene, I find a computer that locks up on booting. It even locks in safe mode. Hmmmmm.
The more I try and boot it, the quicker it locks up.
Heat problem. The more the components get hot, the quicker it locks up.
I remove the protective covering and stare into the brains of the machine.
The Commissioner suggests that maybe i's all of the dust inside.
'It's not the dust.' I say
'But maybe the dust is, you know, causing the problem.' Restates the Commissioner
'It's not the dust.' I state more firmly
The Commissioner Shuts up.
Hmmmmmmm, The plastic brackets that hold the heat sink and fan on the CPU are busted. I remove the Mother Board and sit in trance. I'm not dumbfounded, I'm just channeling McGyver.
'Quick!!' I exclaim, 'I need electrical tape and some bailing wire!!!'
I covered the bottom side of the mother board underneath the CPU connectors with the electrical tape, string the wire through the holes left from the bracket screws, replace the heat sink/fan and twist it tight.
A little adjustment so the fans blades spin freely and slap that puppy back together. A little testing and success!
It's the first time I fixed a computer using the same things that I'd use to do a quickie Muffler repair.
"TOOT!! TOOT!!!" (That's the sound of my own horn.)
:D
