Hello guys :loyal:

I recently made a batch of HAO for someone and thought to take pics so that I could write up a quick recipe for anyone else who wants to make some.

Cannabis is generally good for skin healing, and this oil was made using coco oil instead of the olive oil that I usually use, so this version is solid at room temperature but unlike an M&M it will melt in your hand :playful:

Now, just to be clear, I didn't stick my name in the title out of vanity. Rather, the original recipe calls for several pounds of cannabis so naturally I scaled it down, and if I recall correctly it was a 2:1:1 ratio of Cannabis, Myrrh, and Cinnamon or Cassia. That's way too much cinnamon and it will burn the skin, I'm also not entirely sure that so much Myrhh is needed as it does not all cook into the oil in the time I give it. But of course, it could be all about extracting one or a few substances and leaving the resin behind. So this is not the original, it's been adjusted :snowman:

Step 1: Gather Materials

1 - Materials Gathered.jpg

Oil - Highest quality Extra Virgin olive oil you can find, or, this time we're using Coconut Oil to make an oil that can be applied and stay on better than olive oil could.

Myrrh - Hardened resin used for millenia as an antiseptic and perhaps a mild pain reliever.

Finely powdered Cinnamon - The finer it is the more of the oil than can dissolve into the coco but it will also take a bit longer to filter. While the coco is cooling and hardening the remaining solids will sink to the bottom of the container where they can easily be removed afterward.

Cannabis - If it's for something, shall we say, ceremonial, then I always use the best bud I have available to me at that time. Otherwise, for medical use you can do what is pictured here and take a cucumber tasting hermie full of seeds and a small carrot flavoured Auto Amnesia and cook the less smokable bud into oil ;)

Step 2: Cook Myrrh Into Oil

2 - Cook Oil and Myrrh.jpg

I simply scooped the solid coco oil into the pot and stirred it while it melted. I don't usually measure the oil because it all depends on how strong you want it and what it's for so the exact recipe varies.

This time we'll be using 18-21 grams of Myrrh which is a bit more than usual but this batch will have less cinnamon so the Myrrh got a little bump.

Cook the Mrryh into the oil and 5 minutes later add the cinnamon powder. Stir and keep from boiling, let the cinnamon cook unto the oil
and keep the temperature reasonably low to prevent burning the cinnamon or the bud that will follow, otherwise the oil will take on the charred colour, taste, and smell.

Step 3: Filter The Solids

Carefully pour the *HOT* oil into a container that can withstand the heat. Pictured is a reusable mesh coffee filter but if you cannot find a suitable filter you may have to use a bit more oil, let it sit for a few minutes off the stove, then carefully pour and avoid the sediment on the bottom. You'll want to avoid the cinnamon sediment either way but it's no problem whatever does get through.

Size: 157.5 KB">3 - Filter Soilds.jpg

Below is the leftover Myrhh resin and Cinnamon sediment. The Myrrh may cook more into the oil, I'll have to try a longer cook of just oil and myrrh to test.

Size: 122.0 KB">4 Leftover Tree Resin.jpg

If desired, this step can be performed last and you can cook all the ingredients together at once without problems. This way is just easier to filter and produce a clean block.

Step 4: Remove Stems & Cook Bud

Remove the bud from the stems as they have little value and will make stirring a chunkier experience. This bud was left to dry to the point that it could be stripped off quickly, a few minutes in a 150F oven can help if the bud is still a bit undried, otherwise scissors to chop it up before going in the pot will get a crude substitute for powdered/crushed 'fresh' bud (cared for until now).

5 - Stems.jpg

Cook the bud into the coco oil, stirring frequently and watching the temp to prevent burnt-canna oil. The spoon can be used to work the oil through the bud by pressing the oil-soaked bud against the wall of the pot and letting it cook again while you press another bit o' bud.

6 - Cook Bud.jpg

Gently cook until the oil has taken on the Cannabis oils and the pot is beginning to give off the lighter terpenes.

Step 5: Filter and Cool

Pour the oil through the filter again, this time be sure to squeeze out the coco oil from the bud. First using the spoon, then once cooler you may try other methods such as squeezing between your hands or as I'll try next round, a hand-squeeze mini juicer that doesn't look that great for making orange juice..maybe it's for garlic, but I'll give it a shot squeezing coco oil out of bud and see how it goes.

3 - Filter Soilds.jpg

Once all of the oil has been poured into a container to cool, and *only* after it's cooled from hot to simply warm you can then pour the oil into a styrofoam cup and then place it in the refrigerator to harden.

Once hardened you can peel away the styrofoam, use a knife to slice off the thin layer of sediment at the bottom, and you'll get something like the pic below. It's a bit disfigured because it had to be squeezed to fit inside the box :cower:

Size: 176.1 KB">7 - Finished Block Of Coco HAO.jpg

Of course, if you have a container already intended for the oil you may skip the above and instead pour it into there once cooled down to warm if plastic, and if glass or porcelain you'll be able to pour it in a few minutes sooner.
