Letter shows US Attorney targeting MedPot Patients in Placer County

We have a ten page letter, dated October 26, 2001, from Assistant U.S.
Attorney Samuel Wong to Beneva Weintraub of the Department of Justice
in Washington about targeting medical marijuana patients for
prosecution. In a remarkable statement (Page 7), Wong refers to the
"multiple" "civil rights lawsuits" filed against Placer County, adding:

"...the Placer County Counsel's Office, which is defending the civil
lawsuits, has advised that a ruling adverse to the marijuana defendants
on the search warrant suppression motions in the criminal cases would
be very detrimental to the marijuana growers who are plaintiffs in the
civil lawsuits."

In other words, the US government is not only targeting patients, it
is deliberately prosecuting patients whose civil rights have been
violated, to protect Placer County from losing lawsuits.* We’re not
just accusing the Federal government of this criminal behavior, we have
a letter proving this is really going on.
