has been asked before... Which will draw more energy... a 400w + 600w (light) = 1000 w of electricity the same as if you were to use a 1000 w alone? Want to upgrade to 1000w (from 600) light but don't want to draw any attention to change or jump in electric bill.
Does this make sense to any one...not sure if I do ...

I would think the 1000 watter would be cheaper. But if your pulling the same amps then the bill prob. remain the same.

If you're looking for a way to save money. You can cut the bill almost in half by rewiring your ballast to 220v. Most all of them have this option built in. You usually just open a plate and switch a wire.

not sure it works that way i remember a post here by i think green medicine that explained why but 220 or 120 no dif in cost unless you get a break in kph for 220 use like in wherehouses...

I am very interested in the fact or fiction of the 220 verses 110 theory. Is it true or not. Is it cheaper to run your light 220 or is it the same. If someone know for sure could you please post your references on the topic.

the 220-110 thing has been proven to be a myth.... if you do the math in electronics it just can't happen. in intustrial settings you can get a price break for using 220 because it takes less draw on the powerline but this is not the same as it using less wattage and therefor costing less.

with a 400 and 600 you have to calulate in the use of the balasts as well so potentially there is a chance that both a 600 and 400 balast together use more than the 1000 alone. i do not know the answer for the equipment you have.

historically getting a second 600 has been considered the best bang for your buck if you can cool both lights.

all that said i absolutely love my 1k..... the bight light has hypnotized me!

It also cost less if you can keep your ballasts cool. A hot ballast cost more to run. Plus the life of it will be longer.

120v 1000 watt HPS draws 9 amps...120v x 9amps = 1080 watts.
240v 1000 watt HPS draws 4.5 amps...240v x 4.5amps = 1080 watts.
440v 1000 watt HPS draws 2.25 amps...440v x 2.25amps = 1080 watts.
