...How the US is using the Bombing in London to make renewed calls for American Citizen's to spy on those around them and report any 'Suspicious Activity'. How it's being used to strengthen peoples fear's with words and by having police with machine guns riding the train systems in some cities.

It's a shame to use a tragedy in one country to furthur subjegate (SP?) your own citizens

The media is addicted to marketing fear, murders, rapes, tornados, bombings sell lots of pet food and soap. It’s only natural our politicians exploit this illogical fear. Excluding the third world man has never enjoyed a life with less peril. Now if people would only realize the real threat is us poisoning ourselves and our environment.

    Cool

The US is the most self-centered nation in the universe. No matter what happens, or where it happens, or who it happens to...it's all about THEM.

It's no wonder that Americans on the whole, don't know anything about other countries in the world. Everything is geared to be self indulgent. In their schools, they learn only about America. They learn American history, American geography and American current events, all written by.....Americans. I find it only slightly amusing, that a country who calls itself advanced, and on the cutting edge, has a population, probably 85% of which couldn't tell you who the PM of Canada is, never mind the name of the capitol city. They know nothing of our geography, nothing of our politics, yet still consider themselves the most advanced country on earth. HEY...WE'RE YOUR NEIGHBOURS!!!!!! Just ask an American who won the Grey Cup last season....the usual answer would be..."The WHAT?" They don't know, and most disturbingly, THEY DON'T CARE, about anyone else in the world, never mind their closest neighbours and allies. And it's this ignorance and self centeredness that has gotten them in the trouble they are today. The Americans don't consider themselves citizens of the world, they feel they are a seperate entity to be looked up to, honoured, respected and yes, feared. I feel that if the US would change it's educational policies, and begin teaching their young people more about other cultures, then they might just start to "get it". If they'd just start thinking that they are not the only civilized people on earth, and get off their high horses, show a little empathy, even a bit of recognition to the rest of us here on earth, then maybe others from "foreign countries" wouldn't look at Americans as such bullies and blowhards.
Now, I've gotten a bit off track, but the fact remains, Americans on the whole feel that it's all about them. And when tragedy strikes someone else in the world, it always seems to come back to the USA and how this will affect them.
Give up your high-handedness America, take a look outside and see that the rest of us out on God's earth are not your peons, existing only for your use. Believe it or not... it's NOT all about YOU!

Nice rant, but you can't group us all together and for sure not with the fucks who run this country. All Americans are not as you say. Let media run rampant and this is where the fear factor comes in. Good start but it just turned into another Canadian vs American thread.

    Thumbs down wrong

I think that attaching that label to all americans is wrong. Don't use what our government does to say what its people do. The USA is a mixture of all the countries in the world combined into one. Most americans are loving and caring people and do not agree with what our government does. This is the minority that you are talking about. And you are wrong about what is being taught in our schools. at least when I went to school Geography and world history were mandatory courses.
Having Bush in the white house is one of the worst things to happen to this country. But using bush's actions to label an entire country is a blind man talking

    read it again Ojib.,
numerous times I made sure to say, "Americans on the whole", or "appro. 85%" meaning...as an average, not ALL. I'm not the type to EVER paint an entire group with the same brush, it's not in me to do so. I know the corporation running things down there is a big part of what's going on today, but this is not new...it's been this way for a long, long time. As far as "another Canadian vs American thread", well, never did I mention anything like that. But as usual, when ever I mention anything about how the US gov't runs things, the response from MOST American readers is the same...."Canada vs America"...."You hate us!"..."Anti-American"....while if you read what I wrote, instead of what you want to see, never did I say anything in that vein.

Now I don't live in the USA, but what is the grey cup???
A coffee mug in dingy dishwater?
    I have one of those.
    An Alien Marathon?
    I'm curious.

It's the Canadian Football League trophy. What the earlier posters didn't mention is that even many Canadians don't follow the CFL anymore, preferring US cable feeds of NFL or college games.

IIRC the CFL games are played on a longer field with fewer downs, so technically it's a tougher game.

Personally I always found Australian football more interesting. They go at it as hard as CFL or NFL, but without all the padding. Those boys in the far south are freakin' nuts!

    true.

as for the american vs. canadian (or other way around) thing mentioned,
    it matters not.

who is WITH, americans (the general population of america),
or who is AGAINST americans, (the minority of canadians, perhaps/propably/hopefully!)

    what the other question is...

    is it about them ?

    (the americans)

    yes.

i think it IS about them.

    why?

perhaps it is, because it IS ONLY them,
who can reform their own country,

does one who wishes to change (can only assume those of us who post in these discussions, are hopefully for a better over all world, and thus is why we engage in theese matters)

    respond better,
    to encouragement on their journey....

or reminders, of where they went wrong,
or what they didnt do, or left undone, or didnt do right...

yes, the capitalist machine (it is corporate america who "run" things... those with gold, earned $5 an ounce yesterday... and the stock exchange in the US went up did it not?, were there not some "money lords" who got richer yesterday?)
    did benefit...
as well, as they are responsible mostly, for the affairs
    in the american dream....
    going wrong,
    for most americans,
as well as the rest of the world.

    who try to achieve that.

as long as we chase the illusions,
we will be willing to behave in most
    insane ways...
wether we strap ourselves with some detonator
    between our teeth...
or run to (or away from) the polls...
    on voting day...

    for all the wrong reasons.

'disappointed with the world', and us all.

Very true on almost all points!!!!......I am an American.... (Not by choice)...But...we don't all feel like that....OUR LEADERS AND SO CALLED ELITE DO!!!.......and the brainwashed sheep that can't and don't want to think for themselves do as well....which unfortunately is about 95% of our population.....
Anyone with money and power, assumes they are above the common man…
Big mistake….And we see what is happening because of that attitude….
But….com’on…?????America is far from the only country with an ego like this….??...
    They say "justice is blind".......

In Israel, some families raise their children to hate to Arabs. For no other reason than to hate them. Just like some are taught to hate the Jews.
Hate has no reason. I think that it's more that they hate the Western way of life.

The holy war that the radical Islamics preach is about killing all non Islamic people whether they are Americans or not! Lumping 80-95% of all Americans in such a negative way makes me ill. What a load of crapola. You never see American members lumping all Canadiens together in such a harsh statement. And it's not like Canada is perfect! If Canadian elected officials bow down to Bush, it isn't our fault. We didn't vote those Canadian official into office, you Canadians did! Nobody asked for 9/11 and it appears that Bush let that incident be the reason that he finished up his father's unfinished attempt. Nobody really wanted us to go into Iraq. However, that mistake has already been committed, so what are we to do? Just leave and allow the killing to go on? Is the midle east a better place with a democratic Iraq? Not yet, but it will be! I sure wish that I knew the answer, but blaming the vast majority of the American citizenry is plain wrong. But what do I know? I am just one voting American, myself. It just saddens me when i see some of my TY family members make such outrageous statements that can only offend some of their own TY family members. The same family members that support all TY members in times of need. Oh well.... That is just my opinion, for what it's worth.....

I'm sorry to say, that around the World, most people and places that don't like Americans, lump all of us into the same pie as well. Now while I personally don't think that Cheif was doing that, it gets done the World over. It doesn't matter if it's because of the leaders, the forms of entertainment that we like, the way we dress or the way a lot of Americans act when they're out of the country, American's need to realize, that as a people, they are not looked on favorably as a Whole. I'm not saying that this doesn't change in one - on - one meeting with people of other Cultures, it does, but as a whole, Americans are seen in one light in many places. No distinctions are made.
Today, I went to my favorite, small (very small), local grocery store. It was over-run by a tour group of kids from America. I was horrified. They were very rude. And for the short time that I was there, I saw many instances of intolarance for things being done in a different way then they were done in America. Like they had no conception that it's a big World with many different vultures that do things in different ways. And these were Jewish kids. If intolarance to different ways is exhibited in the children of our soceity, what does that say?
Where do they learn it from?
    Parents, schools, television.
So, you see there is a problem. And it's not how Canadians view Americans. It's how a lot of the World views Americans.
I'm not necessarily saying that it's right or wrong, it's just a fact.
