Thumbs up Anyone else hear about this?

I just saw a small news "blurb" or maybe saw it in an email, but from what I understand, Representative Barney Frank, who is a Democrat and I think from back east...not sure because I get so irritated with politics and start to get apathetic that I want to just throw up my arms in disgust. I just remember when he came "out" and all the hub-bub just because he's gay....pffffft but I really do like his politics from what I know of them.

Anyway, lest I digress even further, I heard he was authoring or backing a bill for either Congress or the House of Reps that would basically repeal the 1936(?) bill that put marijuana on the Class 1 list of drugs! My head says that this will never pass, but my heart is truly hoping that he'll be able to get somewhere with it....and bless him for his efforts! It would take away all the bs laws concerning our medicine and allow for anyone to smoke that is doing so anyway in fear for their freedom. It would just be so nice for all 50 states to go back to being able to use it for whatever reason and (I'd think) allow for hemp farming which could then produce bio-fuels and all the other things that were ripped away from the States after DuPont and Hearst got together back then and managed to get it outlawed so they could pursue their plastic(s) and other pollution producing patents going that made them both millionaires if not billionaires. I suppose if they were just mere "millionaires" in the '30's, they'd be billionaires by today's standards. Obviously, both families are still around and I'm sure, donating $$$ to keep things as they are, but this is a start and I'm glad that at least Mr. Frank has the cajones to do what he's doing.

Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone (especially those in the states) had heard of this new bill and maybe enlighten me in the process. I appologize for not having all my facts in hand, but like I said, I caught just a small amount of the announcement. For all I know, it may have already been shot down, but I certainly hope not!! Any input would be greatly appreciated and of course, I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts on the subject too.

I just feel that if ppl want to smoke, (or eat or vape or whatever) for whatever reason that they should be able to do so without fear of arrest!! I'd much rather see someone get behind the wheel of a car after they've had a hit or 2 of meds than see someone get behind the wheel after they've had a drink or 2 after work. I'm not for driving impaired...that's not what I'm saying. But, if there was a choice in seeing either done, I'd rather see the smoker get behind the wheel.

Thanks Smokinbasser did I get it right? Hahaha I often hesitate to post things when I'm not for sure and very clear on the exact issues, but it sounds like I got it mostly correct, I hope? I am just hoping that he can actually get somewhere with it......man I'd love to see it taken off the list of scheduled "drugs" in my lifetime! We've made good strides by first decriminalizing, then allowing it for medical usage, but the all time great thing imho, would be to just legalize it and get the 300,000 plus "political prisoners" (mj related issues) out of jail and back home where they belong. I'm not trying to throw numbers around, but that was the last "guesstimate" I'd heard was that in the USA, there are over 300,000 ppl locked up behind mj related issues. So thanks Smokinbasser and if anyone knows anything else or can even correct me if I'm wrong, plz do so.....just because I heard it doesn't make it true.....lol Take care family and be well!!

House of Representatives to Consider Cannabis Decriminalization!
Tell Your Representative to Support H.R. 5843!
    http://capwiz.com/norml2/issues/aler...280301&type=CO

    Hi gang,
Ok, I got this from NORML in my email today but I'm not sure if you can just click on that link or you'll need to copy and paste it into your browser box. I just copied and pasted it from the email I got. It seems from the email that Keith Stroup (who I assume is associated in some way with NORML) is leading the pack (so to speak) with this bill and he has the backing from Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass) and Congressman Ron Paul (R-Texas) that are also behind this bill. I'll post the important parts below, but like pflover said, "us that are in the US need to get on board." (I'm sure I didn't get that exactly right, but I'm paraphrasing if that's ok pf? Thanks for posting that link too, pflover! I appreciate all the tech help I can get....lol.

    Here's part of the email,

    April 19, 2008

    Dear Friend of Freedom,

I'm writing today to urge you to be a part of history. That's right, I said
    history.

For the first time in nearly 25 years, NORML is spearheading a campaign in
Congress to end the federal prohibition of marijuana. Congress created
cannabis prohibition, and the courts say time and again to reformers:
'Congress is the place to change marijuana laws.'

Bi-Partisan Support in Congress for Reform

To wage this long-overdue effort, NORML has teamed up with two of our
closest Congressional allies: Democrat Congressman Barney Frank from
Massachusetts and Republican Congressman Ron Paul of Texas. Over the past
several months I have worked closely with these courageous Representatives
to draft legislation that would strip the federal government of its
authority to enforce marijuana possession laws. This legislation is now
pending before Congress as House Bill HR 5843, an 'Act to Remove Federal
Penalties for Personal Use of Marijuana by Responsible Adults.'

Yes indeed, for the first time in more than two decades, we have legislation
in Congress that, if enacted, would end the federal prosecution of adult
    marijuana consumers!

It's a long email and if it hasn't been posted in one of the sticky's I saw on my way here (to this post) I'll post the rest of it. I just don't want to be redundant and re-post something that may already be posted. Have a great day....especially tomorrow....lol. I'd forgotten it was actually going to be 4/20 tomorrow!
