Find other court cases where the value is reasonable and use those for examples. Also maybe get testimonial letters showing what parts are THC active and what are not in regards to what was taken that you are charged with. Not sure what else to follow up on other than the rational arguments that show the police are trying to increase the level they are charging you for by claiming larger amounts than reality dictates.

Does your state or country recognize medical marijuana? If so you may have a medical defense. If you have permission to grow for yourself you should be OK. If not you may have an affirmative defense based upon you needing MJ for medicine - you had to break the law or else suffer unnecessarily. In Oregon, the law defines marijuana as the dried leaves and flowers of the cannabis plant. The roots, stalks and stems have little value except for oil extractions and are not legally defined as marijuana. I know a guy who had composing plants charged against him.
