Default Feminized seeds -- NOT! herm troubles, etc.

I haven't been growing a long time, but a few years this time around. SO I thought I'd splurge on some seeds for last summer. I saw BC Bud Depot (BCBD) ads in all the mags so I decided to give them a shot. Besides, Rosenthal gave them great reviews in the "Buds" series of books.

I ordered BC God Bud feminized (12 ea.) and BC SweetTooth (12 ea.). The total was a shade over $200.00. I got the beans in the mail as promised, germed and sprouted them, vegged them to about 24 inches high and set them to flower.

When these were forced, some of the Sweet Tooth shot up like a rocket -- maybe 14 inches higher than the rest, then it started to sprout both male and female pre-flowers. The feminized BC God Bud seeds turned out to grow about 40% males. Sure am glad I paid that 30+% premium for the fem. seeds!

The BC God Bud grew out shitty, the flowers were OK but there was so much vegetation that it easily rotted if you left a stem from a dead leave on the stalk. A couple of the plants finished pretty nice, but I was largely unimpressed. The BC Sweet Tooth had major herm issues. The tops were airy and small.

I know what some of you are thinking, 'it's the grower'. However, I grew two other strains in the same soil, the same pots, the same light and nutes, and they were great! They were Mandala strains, and if you haven't tried them yet you should. I did get a hold of BCBD by email but nothing ever came of it.

Anybody else out there had trouble with BCBD?

there is or was an entire thread on bc bud depot and why one should never have any dealings with them. To get an idea go to greeenmans seedbank update and look in the rip off section.

Sorry for your loss Slow Twitch. You have found the worst Company for your needs. Check out some of the seed vendors that advertise here at TY. I know personally, that Peak Seeds are one of the BEST. They have top quality medicinal strains and you CAN'T beat their prices. And they are reliable.
You would do BETTER with bag seed instead of BCBD seed

Its things like this that worry me.... bc bud depot is a known shit bank... yet they consistantly win high times awards, and many ( not TY tho) magazines still carry their ads..its a classic case of throwing money at something to overshadow its shitness... im sorry you got the short end of the stick Dan..

Now about eds books.. im not sure if its just a rumour.. but ive heard a few times that you actually have to pay to have your strain in the book of big buds..and on top of that... the breeders are the ones making the writeups.... ed doesnt test the strains and review.. he just writes what the breeders ask..... like i say.. could be hearsay.. but ive heard it more then once that Book of Big Buds, is basically just a book of seed breeder ads...

Default You guys are so right.

Thanks for the replies you guys -- being shown such compassion takes a bit of the sting off of my feelers for sure. The advice on Peak Seeds (the REAL Peak Seeds) is spot-on, they have great customer service, the price is more than fair and the genetics are solid. I love their skunkberry, and have a cross of it growing at present. And the folks answer their emails, too! Anyone else tried their other strains?

I am so sad to hear about Ed's books -- how misleading to say the least. I swear, man, you can't count on shit anymore! If I'd known about his research practices I'd never have spent the cash on the damned things (I have all three). I bought the books specifically to research strains for my medical conditions. Boy, do I feel smart! At least Jason King is a bit more honest about his reviews, and he says that BCBD strains pretty much suck and I couldn't agree more! How could they be winning cups with that garbage? Are the cannabis cups a setup as well -- bought and paid-for? Is there anything at all in this world in which a person can believe? It really seems like the year for the little guy to take it up the butt.

The good news is that I have slowly built up a collection of good genetics; and I now have a lot better idea of what seed companies to trust -- or at least a list of companies NOT to trust! I truly appreciate all your replies and comments, thank you very much! We must all help each other, as no one else is going to. . ..

Peace, love and sex on a mattress.

Like i said... it could be hearsay... i havent ever got proof from anyone that has said such and thing... and i dont thing there ever would be proof inless he admitted it himself.... as for the canna cups... ill leave that to someone else to tackle.. i have my own view on those as well...same with strains of the year in high times rag...

    Default It's a rumor . . .

I hear you about the rumor mill. But, I've always found that there is a grain of truth in most tales of this sort. Folks normally don't sit around and think of libelous/slanderous things to write/say when they've been treated great by a company and are glad to do business with them. But, there are two sides to every story, that's for sure.

In the past, I've heard the questions raised about cannabis cup results. Who knows? Who's tellin'? Anymore, it seems like our whole world is fixed right? The banks -- fixed, the stock market -- fixed, corporations -- crooked as hell, the feds -- total joke, etc. etc. etc. It's really hard to find something to believe in, especially when a particular scenario seems shady in the first place. Me, I don't believe a single thing I hear or read anymore, and less than half of what I see with my own eyes.

The seed business is a business that is only regulated by the knowledge of consumers and where they put their $$$. We need to help spread the knowledge of the seed shops, and hopefully the turds will sink outta sight, and the cream will rise to the top of the industry.

PS -- let's hope Marco's seeds get released by the Canadian gov't so his seed shop can help offset the damage done by the rip-off artists. GO MARCO!

Default BBB (Big Book of Buds) sort of like. . .

    Hey Stagger:

Thanks for the comment. I really wish I'd known about the Big Book of Buds (BBBs) before I bought them. I still would have probably bought them, but I'd have read them with a different expectation in mind. It's sort of like a used car lot, shiny stuff that looks like what they want you to see it look like. But what's under the shine, bondo and
armorall? How well do the actual strain-traits compare to the breeders hopes and dreams for the strain?

I love to grow, too, and I looked at those books like an actual reference, which is what they were 'supposed' to be. Screw me dead if the whole seed industry isn't suspect. I am really looking forward to Marcos seedbank, it may finally give growers a true touch-stone for choosing breeds. I personally would love to grow his beans and do grow and smoke reports -- and I think I'll do reprts on the strains I've grown so far. I think that all conscientious growers would feel the same, don't you guys?

At best now we have mainly a list of seed banks not to buy from. I guess that the deal with the BBBs is best carried on by Jason King's books, which seem to me to be the real scoop on the strains. At least he's not afraid to tell it like he sees it, however his impression goes anyway.

I think that Marcos idea is a great one, and that it is a great way to start to build a reliable, user-driven database for strains. What do you guys think?
