What is it with grilled cheese sandwiches? I had the option of making a nice pot of rice, veggies, and chicken, but instead I opted for grilled cheese sandwiches.
It only takes 20 minutes to cook rice, so it wasn't an issue of being in a hurry.
GCS's are about the most basic flavour there is -- nothing at all exciting -- so I didn't pick them because they're super tasty.
The only reason I can come up with is history. The GCS is one of the first things one learns how to cook, the first spark of "I can feed myself something other than cold cereal and milk or a sandwich." It's the first hot meal I ever remember preparing.
If I recall correctly, I was frying bread, butter, and cheese before I even heated a can of soup!
What's your favourite or most-commonly-cooked "comfort food"?
