Default do you have to heat?

I got some bud leaf from last year. Id like to do a quick wash iso on this. Do you have to heat the alchohol out or can you let it naturally evaporate like on a window sill in the sun? I have a gas stove and aint gonna try that.

    HMMMMMMMMMMMM,
Maybe I'll get yelled at, but I'm not advocating that anyone else do it like I do it.
I have a gas stove and I always evaporate my oil on a double boiler over a very low flame. Never had a problem. I feel so safe doing it this way that I've even had a little nap while cooking off the Alcohol. And I use Ethyl Alcohol, much more flamable then ISO.
I won't go into my theroy as to why it's safe for me to do it this way, just trust that I have a theroy.

Good luck and don't explode yourself.
Why not make bubble? Ice don't burn.

No, I live in the desert. We Have no humidity.
It more that I believe that it's safe, so it is.
But I also don't do it sloppily, I do it like I'm in the lab, only I don't have (much) lab equipment.

I think im gonna put my oven on high and set my pan on top of my range. It will heat the pan and evaporate it quick enough as far as me wanting to smoke it, but does the cooking off of the alcohol increase potency? Or is it just a way to speed up the process? I have cleaned bongs like this and got pretty baked off the outcome. I have a fan blowing over it out the window to cut fumes down.

Years ago when they burned alcohol off they used to light it on fire and it would give off a 2 foot flame but you would not get a build up of fumes. Just like when cooks make a flambe.

Only reason to heat is if you are in a hurry. Plain air evaporation takes more time but works just as effectively. As Pf mentioned alcohol from the freezer works best as the alcohol molecules be come much more active and hence evaporate away a touch faster. Plain air evaporation takes about a day to a day and a half. Also to note is that humidity does not play a factor in the evaporation of alcohol, but it does when you are trying to work of that last bit of water thats left behind.

well yall i have made two batches now. The first I air evaporated with the help of my warm oven. Second batch I heated over a boiling pot, the fumes stayed high enough from the flame on gas burner as for me to see this as ever being a problem for me. I am much more pleased with the second batch. The first was really gooey and I had a hard time scraping it out. pssibly i didnt let it evaporate far enough? plus i got much more out of the second, about a ball the size of a dime i dont have a scale. The plant was a big hermie mexican sativa. I have seen hash only two or three times before I made this, it just dosent come around my area.So I dont have much of a reference for the high but ill describe it like this: It comes on fast kind of a rush and then after a while it puts you to bed.

When I make a batch that comes out gooey, I mix in as much Kief or really finely chopped MJ as I can into it to make it a bit more handable.
Also, with this process, you're making more of an oil then a hash.
If it's hash that you want to make the look into getting yourself a set of filter bags.
You don't need Bubblebags, which are very cool, durable and expensive.
You could also use bags from http://www.filterbag.com/kit.html.
Pick the 5 gallon assortment, a great buy for $60.00 USD plus shipping.
Pays for itself within two batches (Depending on batch size) and well worth the money.

I wondered about doing that buddy. But I made the second batch in the same pan as the first so it hardened up to a managable goo. Next time I will know what to do though.

Yes I wast to get some bags but im really broke right now for a lil bit, property taxes, house payment, bills, bills , bills.........................Ill buy some later and this is cheap this way.Till I burn my house down!

I hear you on the freaking budget crunch, I'm up to my nose the the quicksand . That's why I mentioned the filter bag site, go and save that link. When you have available cash, get them. Cheapest way to go for making bubble hash and if you take care of them, they are very durable.
I got mine for free, kind of. I had a job order them for doing plant extractions and as soon as they ordered more sofisticated (sp?) equipment, I said I was taking them home for experiments. No one asked what kind of experiments. Plus the 250 Micron sized bag is great for straining paint!

I set a box fan in the wimdow of a warm room, fire up the celing fan and let her rip. Sometimes I set another fan to blow across the top of the liquid. If I'm in a real hurry I use my heat gun or the stove but care bust be excercised to avoid fires or inhalliation of the lcohol vapors.
