Did it out in the garage on a lectric hot plate open doors and a couple fans blowin . used a pan of water to put the pan of alcohol in. water dont have ta boil as alcohol will boil at 165 degrees f USE THERMOMETER so if water starts boilin it might be too hot. Watched the process from in the house once it started took about 1 hr ta boil off a qt of alkcy UNDERLINE DOORS OPEN AND FAN BLOWING OFF FUMES and WATCHED FROM SAFE DISTANCE oj

First time I tried it I got lucky. Second time I am standing there stirring my tincture as the alcohol evaporates in the double boiler with a smoke going
(I never claimed to be smart) and the CO/smoke detector goes off. Seconds later the tiny light goes off in my head, "this could be dangerous" I'm thinking.
Now I just do glycerin tinctures and canna butter.
I think I got lucky twice, and only cats have nine lives. Be cautious, be well ventilated. You can't be too careful IMO.

I regularly boil 190 proof Everclear. Ethanol has a narrow fuel air mix range and even when I've torched off the pot to prove a point, putting it out is as easy as putting the lid or a towel over it.

We used to boil the alcohol off perigoric in the fifties when it got heat you lit it on fire to burn off the alki, it puts out a pretty high flame so you really had to cover your windows so nobody called the fire dept. I dont think 151 would be bad they do that stuff in the resteaurants. Jerry

the oil is left in the double boiler once the alcohol is burned off. do it out of doors and you will not have any problems. keep away from any ignition sources

good advice!
if the alcohol is vapor does it not contain the thc?

The alcohol boils at 170 degrees F, and the THC vaporizes at about 351 degrees F, so as the alcohol is disappearing the THC is concentrating, until the alcohol is gone and all that's left is THC and all the other goodness.

the alcohol burns first. in fact, you know the alcohol is gone when there is a spike in the temperature

Yep and that's why a double-boiler / water bath works so well, since water boils at a temp higher than alcohol but less then the vaporization temp of THC.

First put the pot in a jar and add alcohol above level of pot put a lid on it and shake it like there is no tomorrow.do this for 2 minutes continusly.Now pour out the alchol into your cooking pan STRAINING out the pot and disgard the pot left overs .Now put the cooking pot with alcohol in the pot of water and heat water to 170 degrees F.alcohol will evaporate leaving the Goodys in the cooking pan for you to scrape out and enjoy.THC wont be in the steam of evaporating alcohol oj be careful and use ventalation

you dont need to cook at all simply pour into the pan and let it naturally [the alcocol] evaporate leaving the sticky residue in a few days and its alot safer. I just scrape out the goo and smear a paper and roll it up ta smoke works fer me.oj
