Scooping up nearly $90,000 in illegal drugs and weapons during a Stony Plain raid is helping make the community safer, police say.

"(We are) very pleased to have been able to prevent this cache of weapons and drugs from circulating into our community," said Spruce Grove/ Stony Plain RCMP Const. Janine Peter.

Mounties seized about $86,000 in weapons and drugs after raiding a rural property near Stony Plain last Friday.

Among the items seized were five guns, including a loaded .22 calibre pistol and loaded Israel Military Industries Galil semi-automatic assault rifle.

Marijuana and hash -- with a combined street value of $83,500 -- were also seized.

Charged with dozens of firearm- and drug-related offences is 49-year-old Glenn Frimen Tremblay.

Stony man facing 21 charges to appear in court on Sept. 25

Glenn Frimen Tremblay, a 49-year-old Stony Plain man facing 21 charges is scheduled to make his second court appearance on Sept. 25

Tremblay made his first court appearance on Aug. 25.

The Stony man has been charged with 21 counts related to firearms offences, possession of marijuana, possession of hash for the purpose of trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime following a seizure of five unlicensed weapons at his rural residence on Aug. 6.

Police seized $86,000 worth of weapons and drugs from his rural residence five km north of Stony Plain.

Included in the seizure was over 5,200 grams of hash with a street value of approximately $78,000, and over 850 grams of marijuana with a street value of more than $8,500.

In connection with the investigation, Tremblay was charged and taken into custody. But he was later released on $15,000 cash bail.
