Of course they're only talking about purchased beverages. I know a lot more people in Saskatchewan who brew their own beer than I've ever known anywhere else. There are local brewmeister competitions (both private and run by sponsors), with skills ranging from brew kits to people who go and get their barley directly from farmers and import their hops instead of buying it locally!"Consumers in Quebec and Newfoundland and Labrador led the pack, purchasing just over 115 litres of alcoholic beverages per capita. In contrast, those in Saskatchewan purchased only 94.4 litres, lowest of all."
One fellow in Regina that I know brews the best range of beers I've tried in a very, very long time.![]()
That's pretty much the same here. I'm not sure if it's nation-wide but it's so popular here that the local grocery stores carry all the fixin's for making beer and wine right in the pop aisles.

Okay this is a little off topic.
When I first got out of College I sold consumer products for a company called Beachum product. Aqua Fresh Tootepaste, Vivran, Sominex, Cling Free, Delicare, Calgon and of course the main one that I got so much shit for: Masengil Disposables.
I never thought I would ever sell that kind of a product but it turned out to be our most profitable brand and I could sell the hell out of it.
Most would say why did you sell so much. Well one day I went into a city called Gary Indiana as my territory was the south side of chicago and the northwest part of Indiana. Some of the roughest parts of Chicago and of course Gary is a very poor place.
So I go into this store called "The Store" and by no means is this a large grocery store but a good size for Gary. Just so happpens we have a special on Masengal douches and I go to the manager and give him the cost for shippers that contain like 110 diff varietys.
He is so excited he says "I will take them all"
Of course I was excited but was worried that he would not sell them. Since this is a small area and poor most people buy food and liquor.
He says they are "one of my number one sellers"
Now I am really confused.
Then he brings me over to where they are on the shelf and there must of been like ten feet just of diff kinds. Trust me not even the big box stores had this much shelf space for the Masengal.
Right then this older gentleman comes up with a grocery cart. He puts his one arm all the way to the back of the shelf and then scouped up everything on one shelf.
Again I am puzzled.
So I am a friendly guy and I go and say "Whats Up"
We strike up a conversation and the long story short is that they make bath tub GIN.
Masengal is almost all alcohol and water plus a scent.
I thought I was going to die!!!
Then the manager looked at me and said that is why he could sell so much.
I cant remeber what else they mix it with but the guy said that they could make a big batch and it would last a along time.
So I am sure there are all kinds of ways people make there own alcohol.
Another short story is when I lived in England wwe went to this pub and they had some stuff called "Glug" or something like that. It was fermentend Apple Juice and some other things but man did it pack a punch.
Boy did we tie one on that day.

Be careful with some homebrews.I don't mean commercially available mixes for beer or wine, I have no idea how safe they are. But I do know a friend who thought he was clever and made his own pear wine/cider (stupid juice I called it, was so strong, and never drank it, even though free) Buddy was less than 30 years old when his skin started to turn yellow due to jaundice. His doctor could'nt believe the damage to his liver, it was the homemade cheap hooch, in this case the pear cider.
With 16 billion dollars in sales ya think we will ever have a chance to have the good herb legalized?
"Oh look, hell is freezing over! Pot legalization is at hand!".. :-)
